Among the worst mistakes we've made was to specify an all Viking kitchen - refrigerators, range, dishwasher, and compactor. Every one of these appliances has failed! Our client has now been without a refrigerator for a month, because Viking was out of stock of a part! The dishwasher had to be replaced. The range has required hundreds of dollars of repairs, and still doesn't work properly. Our advice? Avoid all Viking products!

(More customer reviews)I have to write a short review to say how nice these Elba units are. I have the 2403 Duel Fuel model. Ignore the Avanti name, they are only the importers and I know their reputation in the US is not of high quality. Elba however is an Italian cooking appliance manufacturer independent of Avanti. My unit is of the same quality of a Viking or other high-end stainless range. Everything is solid & perfectly finished. The oven is spot-on accurate top, bottom, front, back. The triple ring burner is fantastic for large pot quick boiling. The oven programming function is deceptively complete although takes some time to learn. Lastly, the Elba units are about 1/2 the price of similar 24" American units.

(More customer reviews)We bought an NXR range at a local retailer. The good about the NXR range is that it has very nice burners, an infrared broiler and a large oven with very nice slide out racks. It also comes at a great price (1899 and always ask for the middle grate and ask for it to be free!).
The first unit arrived, in a box, and had a dent on the left front (note the oven door closes into a frame, it does not close flush like other ovens do) frame. The oven door itself was mounted crooked and the side had scratches.
Refused the unit, got a new one a few days later. Installed, tried, smelled gas. Turns out this unit had a heavy leak in the main gas line within the unit.
Returned that one as well and traded up to a Bertazonni range (slightly higher in price).
Also note that the NXR has fairly flimsy parts. The middle cover (between the burners) is flimsy and loose (it slides when cleaning). The back vent is flimsy at best. And in general it is not of high quality external materials when comparing it to a Bertazonni.
If the quality of the materials and the quality control were not so poor this would be a real steal! Alas, it is one of these "to-good-to-be-true" things.

DCS CP-364GL-SSN Cooktop 36, 6 Burner, Natural Gas Review

(More customer reviews)I am writing this review to help spare others what we are going through right now. We bought a DCS grill seven years ago and the customer service was amazing. We love the grill and the customer service experiences we had during that purchase led us to purchase the DCS 48in gas cooktop with grill and griddle. I wish we had realized they have been bought by another company! Our NEW cooktop we paid around $3800.00 for came to use with missing parts and a drip try that was installed so poorly it would not open. The tray alignment is off and it bent the frame. We called DCS immediately expecting the same amazing customer service we had gotten several years ago and were stunned at their reaction which was basically "too bad". They refused to replace the cooktop and were of no help at all. We went as far up the chain as possible with nothing but the same run around. They insisted that we get it serviced - OUR BRAND NEW $3800.00 COOKTOP - serviced! They would not even consider helping us until we had a service company come out and try to fix our new appliance. They said that the service company would have to deem it irreparable before they would "try to resolve it" - not replace it. The servicemen worked on the drip tray and although it now pulls out, it has to be forced. They are ordering the missing parts from DCS and those should be in sometime after Christmas. When you purchase an appliance that costs that much and claims to be a high-end product, you expect the customer service to match their claims. This cooktop should have been replaced immediately and we cannot believe the hoops we are having to go through. Furthermore, we are afraid of the issues we may have to face in the future. What else is wrong with this thing - how did it get damaged - is the quality control so poor that they marked parts as included yet they weren't? Did they actually inspect this cooktop before it left their warehouse? We are so angry and are trying to work through the process but I am strongly urging you to choose something else!!!

(More customer reviews)After much searching for a new gas range and also trying one of the name brands out there, namely a Frigidaire, we settled on this one. We have had many nightmeres trying to find a simple gas stove as the new modern ones with their electronic controls cost a fortune to replace when they go. My old one only last three years before the electronic oven control went. I hated the sealed burners, everything takes longer to cook and heat up. The only benefit they have is clean up and thats much to be desired. If you cook with a wok, you can't used sealed burners as they don't get hot enough. so our goal was to find a simple stove, so it would last us for many years. Well, you can't fnd them out there. So I started researching on the internet. I found several G.E.s and everytime I would try to order them.....oh, they have been discontinued. So my husband found this premier which you can't find many of in stores in NYS. I don't know about other places. I couldn't find a review either. So we jumped in and took a chance and we are SOOOOOO glad we did. This stove is made in the U.S.A. their website gives you complete details on how well made they are and they have not lied about that either. Its the most well built stove I have seen in many many years. The center burner can be changed to be a griddle. The only problem we had was that the porcelain griddle cover didn't sit flat and so I called them and they said they would put one in the mail to me, no questions asked. Its nice to get a company in this country that tells you the truth and isn't trying to sell you a bunch of gimmicks to get you to buy their stove. This stove has all you need, is well built and will last for years, plus in the event of a power failure, you can still light it with a match, not something you can do with the new electronic controls. so it is the only one out there to me that rates a five star. If the stars went higher, I would give them all to this range. You won't be sorry to give them a try.

(More customer reviews)This model is as close to the one we bought that I can find on Amazon. Ours is a GE Profile PFSS2 with filtered water and built in icemaker. It's stainless steel and matches everything else on this mode. The adjustable shelves are what makes this a great fridge. You decide how much space between shelve both inside and on the doors. So that you can make small condiment shelves and then have lots of room for big bottles. Under on of the shelves is a rack which holds twelve cans of soda, just like the ones in the market; it's angled so they flow forward as you pull each can out. All the shelves are on wheels and pull out, making it easy to find what your looking for.
There are lights placed all around the inside of the fridge so there are no dark spots where the light is blocked by a 2 liter bottle or a casserole dish. The bins are mostly see through so that you can find what you want without having to open them. There's one shelf that splits in half allowing you to put tall bottles on the shelf below without having to shift shelves around.
Only two complaints: 1) the filtered water is great if your right handed but is impossible to use left-handed (just a bunch of right handed bigots)
2) the off-switch for the in freezer ice-maker is located behind the bin that holds the ice and is awkward to get to; don't think they expect you to use it much
All in all we are quite pleased with the visual effect of having most of what you want right at eye level.

(More customer reviews)The "fit and finish" on the range is excellent. It does not look or feel cheap and at a suggested retail of $999 it shouldn't. The oven is huge and is the main point of surprise for friends when the check out our new stove. Despite having a "Chicken Nuggets" setting, you will not be be using this huge oven for chicken nuggets unless you have a Girl Scout Troop to feed. The controls are clear and easy to learn although "convect convert" requires some reading. After seeing this stove at a retail store, continuous grates and 5 burners seemed like the obvious choices and I cannot wait until turkey day to have the whole cook-top covered with pots and pans. My only personal wish for this stove would be that the gigantic quick boil burner an the front right would be at the right rear position. I have used the right front burner to cook eggs for years and this huge burner is to large for my egg pan. However, the gas iron griddle is great for quesadillas, grilled sandwiches, pancakes, etc. I would not use it for bacon or burgers as this would likely create a greasy splatter mess. This is a great range.

Whirlpool GGE388LXS GGE388LXS Freestanding Double Electric Wall Oven Review

(More customer reviews)Overall a very good, but pricey range. We purchased it about two weeks ago, so do not yet have extensive experience with it. It replaced a GE smooth top range, simply because of a remodel to stainless steel appliances.
The reasons for purchasing this range were because of the dual oven design, Whirlpool ratings, and this unit has the largest top oven of any units of this design. Also, it matched a previously purchased Whirlpool gold french door refrigerator.
So far the only negatives we have encountered are preferences. The hot surface warning light is about the size of a pin head, as opposed to the old GE's much larger light, and the clock uses a blue light, which is hard to read at a distance. Also, the unit has one "feature" which was probably mandated by safety concerns issued by someone who has never baked anything - when the timer goes off, it turns the oven off. So, if you need another minute or two, you have to go through the oven preheat cycle again. This is minor, and can be circumvented by purchasing an auxillary timer, but it is an irritation which is unnecessary. A much better solution would have been to make turning the oven off a programmable option.

(More customer reviews)I have this product in the stainless steel but it's the 5 burner one. The 5th burner went out already in less than a year! Does not turn on. The top part is very hard to clean it stays greasy looking and hard to keep it shining and clean looking. Also calling it a double oven is not accurate. If you use the top part as an oven instead of a broiler it will burn your food on the bottom because the heat source is right there so you can't really use it as an oven without burning the bottom. I made cookies on the top and the bottom burned while the top didn't brown. Not a good product I don't recommend it. Not worth the price.

(More customer reviews)My primary problem with this range (which came with the house I bought) has been with the door. Three times the hinges have become bent, meaning the door does not seal properly when closed (and allows the heat to escape out the top and side of the oven). Each time I have paid my (very reliable) appliance repair man almost $300 for the new hinges. Once, in addition to the hinges bending, the interior sheet of glass cracked and broke from the heat of the oven (and, no, I hadn't banged the door shut or done anything other than reasonably use my oven). In total, I have spent $1.2K to have this oven repaired in 5 years. Last week, when the hinges bent again, my repair man called KitchenAid and asked for them to pick up the tab, since the most recent, previous failure occurred only 9 months ago. KitchenAid's response? I was clearly "abusing" my oven. Huh? Are you serious? Really? REALLY? Since when is using a product for its intended purpose (baking, roasting) an "abuse" of the product? If KitchenAid wanted its customers to only look at and admire their pretty range, then KitchenAid should clearly disclose the primary flaw of this appliance -- THE DOOR IS WAAAAAYYYY TO HEAVY FOR THE HINGE -- and alert potential customers to the fact that the range is a decorative item only. Engineer the darn door to suit the hinge (or vice versa) correctly, or compensate your customers for your engineering failure, but don't call a customer's routine and normal use of the oven "abuse"! Secondarily, the electronic buttons which set the oven temperature and the timer are forever freezing for no reason -- sometimes I can set my desired time and temperature, but equally frequently I cannot, in which I have to adjust my cooking time or temperature to suit the whims of this appliance. How exactly has KitchenAid developed a brand that it can charge such a large price premium for? I can only imagine that most of the people who buy KitchenAid ranges don't actually use them. They are, after all, very attractive to look at. In short, if you want a pretty, non-functional and overpriced appliance, this is the one for you! Alternatively, if you would like a range that has a prayer's chance of functioning as promised, and which the manufacturer stands behind when it fails, run away and don't look back!

Still not cheap... but we found out quickly that today, $1000 doesn't even buy you a nice gas stove with extra features... just a gas stove cheaply made. We've owned this for about 2-months and it's fun to cook again! I can actually cook with 5 large pots and pans at the same time! They moved the burners out 3-inches, so it's still 30" but you have more cooking area. I can boil water in 5 minutes, program it to shut off after the food has cooked for a set period of time, and the center burner cooks pancakes and bacon just perfectly at 6000 BTU's (all other stoves with oval center burners were 5000 BTU's). Sorry, haven't tried the convection yet.... but it converts automatically. Have read other people's concerns over the fan noise, honestly we haven't noticed, but most of our cooking is done well under 425 degrees. The stove will give you a nice commercial look, one burner gives you professional level 18,000 BTU's, and for the price it's a great choice. If you're a professional chef/cook, I can't imagine you would be happy, it would be all look and not enough power. But for us, large family, cooking 2-meals at home per day, sometimes different items for the finicky kid, it had all the extra features we wanted at a great price without getting into a commercial stove with a big price tag.

(More customer reviews)I've had this for less than 5 years and it's now good for the trash.
First, upon receiving it, we had problems with the electronic control and it had to be replaced altogether. Took over a month to get the part and fix it.
Second, when the oven is used, there's a cooling fan that starts up and it's quite noisy. It doesn't stop until the oven is cool, so even after it's shut down, the fan continues to run, ruining any nice and cozy candle dinner you might have planned.
Lastly, we used the auto-clean feature for the first time after about 4 years and it simply killed the display again. We called the repair guy and just to open it and determine what had to be changed would've required to completely disassemble the thing since the door was locked in place by the auto-clean (safety measure). Even then, any part to be changed would've cost (with labour and all) around $1000. So it's now headed for the trash and we'll buy a new one.
DON'T buy any of these Kitchen Aid series.

KITCHENAID RANGE COOLING FAN
1. This KitchenAid cooling fan starts blowing as soon as the oven is turned on, and runs until the oven is turned off, or the convection mode cool down completes.
2. This range cooling fan exhaust area is 8" above the floor and 27" long and reaches at least 5.5 feet out from the front of the range.
3. Anyone in the kitchen while this KitchenAid oven is in use, is subject to a "breeze" on lower legs and feet.
4. The KitchenAid fan exhaust breeze may not be as aggravating in cooler weather, but possibly will be a major issue in warmer weather.
5. Based on friends with competitor ranges, this KitchenAid cooling fan is louder, more annoying, and distracting than those models. We had to increase the volume of the TV in the kitchen to compensate for the fan noise.
After using the oven just once, we told the dealer that we wanted to exchange it for a different manufacturers' range. We would not recommend that this KitchenAid model be considered.
KITCHENAID RANGE CONTROL PANEL
1. This KitchenAid control panel design is awkward and inconvenient. The front panel is tilted at a shallow angle, close to vertical. This makes the panel more difficult to observe and operate when cooking at the range top or using the oven. In order to adequately observe and correctly use the control panel, you have to stand back from the range or bend down/crouch down each time.
2. This KitchenAid control panel is located directly above the oven door. With the oven in use, opening the oven door, allows moist, hot air to billow out and up onto the control panel. Moisture condenses on the panel...and drips onto the floor.
3. Yes, you could wipe off the control panel to control condensation every time that you open the oven door, but this increases the opportunity to touch a control point and accidentally modify a setting.
4. A reasonable person could question what effect continual exposure to steam and moisture will have on the useful life of the panel and its electrical components.
POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE - Easy to accidentally turn "on" the controls.
The shallow angle of the KitchenAid control panel (there's that panel issue, again) positions the top cooking element control knobs very close to where you will be leaning when you reach up to an overhead cabinet. It is very easy (critically easy?) to contact the cooking element controls - push one in - and turn the knob into the "high" position with a slight twist of the upper body...and have a burner heating up quickly. We were in the preparation stage (nothing in the oven or on the top cooking elements) when my wife reached into an overhead cabinet for something - turned slightly to the side to place it on the countertop - and accidentally turned on a cooking element. It is frightening to imagine what could have happened to a cooking magazine, cook book, food carton or towel placed on that cooking element had we left the kitchen area for even a short period of time.
