I had a maytag over the range microwave that died after 4 years. I replaced it with the stainless steel kithenaid convection over the range microwave and I am definitely pleased. After reading review after review of other brands I decided to go with this model and I am glad I did. This microwave offers everything and then some. I probably won't use half of the features on here, but in the event I need them I have them! The convection is amazing, it literally cuts my cook time in half with out overcooking my food. Kitchenaid is reputable for producing quality products and I already own thier restaurant quality mixer. This microwave is highly recommended and the price I paid for it on Amazon blew the competitor's prices out of the water.

DCS CP-364GL-SSN Cooktop 36, 6 Burner, Natural Gas Review

I am writing this review to help spare others what we are going through right now. We bought a DCS grill seven years ago and the customer service was amazing. We love the grill and the customer service experiences we had during that purchase led us to purchase the DCS 48in gas cooktop with grill and griddle. I wish we had realized they have been bought by another company! Our NEW cooktop we paid around $3800.00 for came to use with missing parts and a drip try that was installed so poorly it would not open. The tray alignment is off and it bent the frame. We called DCS immediately expecting the same amazing customer service we had gotten several years ago and were stunned at their reaction which was basically "too bad". They refused to replace the cooktop and were of no help at all. We went as far up the chain as possible with nothing but the same run around. They insisted that we get it serviced - OUR BRAND NEW $3800.00 COOKTOP - serviced! They would not even consider helping us until we had a service company come out and try to fix our new appliance. They said that the service company would have to deem it irreparable before they would "try to resolve it" - not replace it. The servicemen worked on the drip tray and although it now pulls out, it has to be forced. They are ordering the missing parts from DCS and those should be in sometime after Christmas. When you purchase an appliance that costs that much and claims to be a high-end product, you expect the customer service to match their claims. This cooktop should have been replaced immediately and we cannot believe the hoops we are having to go through. Furthermore, we are afraid of the issues we may have to face in the future. What else is wrong with this thing - how did it get damaged - is the quality control so poor that they marked parts as included yet they weren't? Did they actually inspect this cooktop before it left their warehouse? We are so angry and are trying to work through the process but I am strongly urging you to choose something else!!!

After much searching for a new gas range and also trying one of the name brands out there, namely a Frigidaire, we settled on this one. We have had many nightmeres trying to find a simple gas stove as the new modern ones with their electronic controls cost a fortune to replace when they go. My old one only last three years before the electronic oven control went. I hated the sealed burners, everything takes longer to cook and heat up. The only benefit they have is clean up and thats much to be desired. If you cook with a wok, you can't used sealed burners as they don't get hot enough. so our goal was to find a simple stove, so it would last us for many years. Well, you can't fnd them out there. So I started researching on the internet. I found several G.E.s and everytime I would try to order them.....oh, they have been discontinued. So my husband found this premier which you can't find many of in stores in NYS. I don't know about other places. I couldn't find a review either. So we jumped in and took a chance and we are SOOOOOO glad we did. This stove is made in the U.S.A. their website gives you complete details on how well made they are and they have not lied about that either. Its the most well built stove I have seen in many many years. The center burner can be changed to be a griddle. The only problem we had was that the porcelain griddle cover didn't sit flat and so I called them and they said they would put one in the mail to me, no questions asked. Its nice to get a company in this country that tells you the truth and isn't trying to sell you a bunch of gimmicks to get you to buy their stove. This stove has all you need, is well built and will last for years, plus in the event of a power failure, you can still light it with a match, not something you can do with the new electronic controls. so it is the only one out there to me that rates a five star. If the stars went higher, I would give them all to this range. You won't be sorry to give them a try.

Big Steel Keg 05503 Charcoal Grill for Convection-Style Cooking Review

Big Steel Keg 05503 Charcoal Grill for Convection-Style Cooking
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased after considering the Big Green Egg and the Primo Oval XL ceramic grills. I did a lot of research and finally came to the conclusion that the Big Steel Keg had more bang for the buck than the Egg or the Primo. Similary equipped, the Egg or the Oval were $350 - $500 more than the Big Steel Keg and then you still need to be concerned about cracks on the ceramic grills from my kids when playing around it.
I can say that so far I've cooked pork chops, beer can chicken, spatchcock chicken, brisket and burgers on the grill so far - all were winners. It will cook low and slow at 250 degrees, or you can sear steaks at 750 degrees. I've had good luck holding the low temps with little trouble or variance. Using lump charcoal, the food tastes great and uses small amounts of fuel compared to traditional charcoal grills.
Pros: Smokes or grills awesome!
Even temperature control
Cast iron grill
cradle with wheels included
Cons: Wish the side tables would fold in the down position for storage. That said, they do remove very easily.
Needs better packaging - mine arrived with the entire bottom taped by UPS and I thought the grill may have been damaged. It was not.
The manufacturer says that a grill cover is included with this grill - mine did not come with one and I have tried to contact the company for a couple of days now and have not had any luck.

GE Profile Spacemaker Series JVM1790WK 30 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - White Review

GE Profile Spacemaker Series JVM1790WK 30 1.7 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bottom-Line: Overall I am very pleased with the GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Over-the-Range Convection/Microwave Oven.
None of us (except the uber-rich, who have enough money to ride the whole thing out) are immune to the economic downturn it seems. My wife and I had decided to put our house on the market this spring, but decided not to when the numbers just didn't add up in our favor. So we decided to remodel our small, but comfortable home instead.
In the kitchen and dining room we replaced the flooring. And we decided to replace our 10-year-old countertop microwave oven with an over-the-range convection/microwave oven, that could also act as a warming oven; we eventually choose the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" over-the-range convection/microwave oven, which we purchased for ($519.00) at our local Grants Appliances & TV.
The Unit
The 65lbs. "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" over-the-range convection/microwave oven is an all-white 1.7 Cu. Ft. capacity, 1000 watt unit that offers the following feature-set:

oConvection cooking - produces flavorful, beautifully browned results
oFast bake - delivers oven-quality results up to 25% faster than conventional cooking
oSensor microwave oven - uses built-in sensors to automatically set power and time based on food moisture levels
oWarming oven - keeps prepared foods exceptionally warm and fresh
oAuto Recipe conversion - automatically converts standard recipe temperatures to proper convection settings, eliminating the guesswork
oBi-lingual scrolling display - provides helpful cooking tips and oven use instructions in easy to read English or Spanish
oThree speed, 300 CFM venting - allows adjustment of ventilation levels according to your needs
oEasy set control dial - allows quick and easy adjustment of time and temperature settings
oStainless steel interior - reflects heat and surface cleans quickly and easily
The unit is of course designed to fit is standard 30" over-the-range opening and fit into our opening rather nicely once the hood was removed. The all-white unit is attractive, and relatively easy to use and operate.
The "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Microwave Oven" ships with a standard rotating glass plate, along with two stainless steel racks for convection roasting and baking, instruction manual, and cookbook.
During over-the-range installation one can choose to vent the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" outside or inside the kitchen via charcoal vent situated at the top of the unit. Air is drawn into the microwave via vents at the bottom. A two-way light is also situated at the bottom of the unit, but unfortunately it does not provide as much light as the hood it replaced. This is probably due to the face that the light is much closer to the cook top and it is off to the right front of the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK." Push the "Surface Light" button once and the lamp comes on full power, push is again and the light enters night light mode.
The "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" comes with a powerful 3-speed Vent (fan). Push the "Vent" once and the fan comes on High, push it again, medium, once again, low. Both the high and medium vent fan setting is quite noisy, but not annoyingly so.
Use
Microwave operation is pretty straight forward and needless to say the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" with is 1.7 cubic feet of cooking space and 1000 watts of cooking power excels at this task. The ubiquitous Popcorn button (a must in my house) is the first button on the top row left. Push it and the unit automatically adjusts its time to turn out the best bag of popcorn.
Timed cooking is accomplished by the push of a button and a rotary dial to input the cook time. Push the "Reheat Plate" button and the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" utilizing the units auto-sense technology automatically adjusts the time and power to reheat the food evenly. The feature works and works well.
Convection cooking is not so straight forward but it is one of the reasons we purchased the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK". There are a number of options available for convection cooking and one is well-advised to read through the manual to find the selection that best suits your needs.
I baked my first dish in the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" soon after it was installed: homemade cornbread. I pushed the "Convection Bake" button--there is also a Convection Roast--and then dialed in the temperature I needed, in this case 400 degrees. Unlike some reviews I read the oven took less than 30 minutes to warm up; in fact it took a little over 15 minutes, which is on par with my conventional gas oven.
After to required 23 minutes the cornbread was done, well sort of done. The outside was sufficiently golden brown, but the inside middle was not quite done. Something tells me that this convection cooking stuff is going to take some getting used to!
Closing Thoughts
Overall I am very pleased with the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK Over-the-Range Convection/Microwave Oven." Despite the fact that my first attempt at convection baking did not turn out quite as expected, I will over time learn the ins and outs of convection cooking. The microwave portion of the "GE Profile Model JVM1790WK" works as expected and the unit look fabulous with our kitchen full of other GE appliances.

We purchased this speed oven for our new kitchen. It worked 3 times and then stopped. Turns out there was a problem w/ the hinge on the door and somehow it blew the fuse. I read about this common problem after we purchased the speed oven. Now we have to buy extended warranty since I read this is a recurring problem.

An afternoon of visiting a few stores and a price match with 10% off, brought the price down to about $1800. Still not cheap... but we found out quickly that today, $1000 doesn't even buy you a nice gas stove with extra features... just a gas stove cheaply made. We've owned this for about 2-months and it's fun to cook again! I can actually cook with 5 large pots and pans at the same time! They moved the burners out 3-inches, so it's still 30" but you have more cooking area. I can boil water in 5 minutes, program it to shut off after the food has cooked for a set period of time, and the center burner cooks pancakes and bacon just perfectly at 6000 BTU's (all other stoves with oval center burners were 5000 BTU's). Sorry, haven't tried the convection yet.... but it converts automatically. Have read other people's concerns over the fan noise, honestly we haven't noticed, but most of our cooking is done well under 425 degrees. The stove will give you a nice commercial look, one burner gives you professional level 18,000 BTU's, and for the price it's a great choice. If you're a professional chef/cook, I can't imagine you would be happy, it would be all look and not enough power. But for us, large family, cooking 2-meals at home per day, sometimes different items for the finicky kid, it had all the extra features we wanted at a great price without getting into a commercial stove with a big price tag.

Electrolux : EI30MH55GS 30 Over-the-Range Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel Review

(More customer reviews)
The gun in our 1400 watt GE over-the-range microwave gave out after just 3 1/2 years of use. SO, we decided to shell out the big bucks to buy this Electrolux. (It matches our new Electrolux range, which we actually love).
The problem is that there is no turn table in this unit and the "cook-2-perfection technology" is, in a word, *PITIFUL*! The way it cooks reminds me of the $100 units you give your kids to take to college.
Breakfast sandwiches (from the freezer) burn in the center and are still cold on at least one edge. Two hot dogs for one minute wrapped in a paper towel were nearly burnt on one end and just warm on the other.
I tried the "sensor cook" for a mini-bag of popcorn and it shut off after about 10 kernels popped! The "sensor cook" settings appear to be trainable so I think I can add more (or less) time, but it's not clear to me from the manual if the microwave remembers those, or if I have to add more time every time I use the "sensor cook" buttons. (If it can't remember the tweaks, what good is it?)
Electrolux must use this manual for a different microwave oven too, because it constantly references the turntable that I only wish it had.
We're *extremely* disappointed and I wish I could send it back. I guess I'll have to go find a 3rd party turntable, or cook everything on 60% power. Oh, and just so you know, "Electrolux is not responsible for any damage to the oven when accessories are used". Does that mean that a turntable invalidates the "FULL ONE YEAR WARRANTY"?
Note: This was purchased locally and with installation, not from Amazon. If you're handy, and have help, installation is typical of over-the-range microwaves. ["Made in USA from domestic and imported parts". January 2008?]
UPDATE: 1/28/2009
I called Electrolux to complain about how badly this microwave worked. (Invoking the one year warranty). They attempted to tell me that I needed to use the rack for cooking popcorn. (I could hear them quickly flipping through the user's manual). After I pointed out to them that page 17 of their manual specifically says "do not use the rack unless you are cooking multiple dishes" they sent a repair man.
Well, there are two rotating discs under the floor of the microwave, (supposedly to scatter the beam) and they were both rotating. It boiled a cup of water within 3 minutes. The company rep said that I might have better luck if I elevated food a couple of inches off of the bottom. But, the overall conclusion was: Works as expected. (Gee, thanks).
I tried a micro-go-round. It helped, a little. Very annoying to use however.
Finally, after 3 short months, sick of my food ending up both burned and frozen at the same time, I JUNKED the Electrolux and bought another GE. (Pssst - the repair guy said not to buy anything but GE! We also bought the extended warranty - not that it would have helped with the Electrolux!)
My conclusion: Electrolux microwaves are junk - a total waste of money. And, Electrolux was ABSOLUTELY NO HELP in resolving this problem. (Do you think I'll ever buy anything from them again?)

After considerable research online, we chose this model of convection/microwave vent hood for our kitchen remodel.
WOW.
Let me reiterate.
WOW!
Being a 'car guy' automove similies seem to fit here, so I'll just say that this oven is like a balanced, blueprinted race motor in your kitchen. Sleek, powerful, responsive. We researched several vendors, and believe me, reviews and feedback are VERY important;and when ordered, the unit was delivered within 4 days. Packaging was secure and unit arrived without incident. Documentation was excellent, installation was straightforward and took less time than expected. Performance has been flawless, just as advertised. The controls are well thought out and logically placed. We really appreciate the multiple levels of lighting and fan speeds, and the accessories packaged with the unit all work well. Large interior volume makes for LOTS of options, touch screen menus are simple to navigate. The styling is both contemporary
and reminiscent of streamline moderne esthetics. The unit is quite heavy and will require at least two strong people to install, and the price is rather hefty, also. We feel, however, that we have gotten great value with this unit.

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave Oven Review

Sharp SuperSteam Microwave Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off this is a VERY attractive appliance. The picture on the website does not do it justice, as weird as that may seem. It is substancial, well built, and looks and feels like something from a professional kitchen. Even though the measurements are documented, the oven just seems bigger. Personally, I think it's too big for a counter and would be best mounted into a unit. There could be some problems with mounting because you absolutely DO need the recommended space above, behind and to the sides - you can't get away with putting it up against anything if you plan on using the steam feature.
Good things:
The convention over works exactly as it should - I made a cake and it came out super-fluffy and perfectly cooked in and out, and very moist. Also made a sandwich and the bread was nice and crispy and the tomatoes inside were perfectly cooked. I made two chickens - one with the steam and one without. Both were good, but the one with the steam did get brown (lightly) and looked better, although they both tasted great and moist.
Microwave works fine. Downside is that there is no spinning wheel, so you have to stir and flip things around - AND - the microwave keeps stopping to tell you to do that. A bit annoying.
Although the job wheel feels very expensive and all the options are laid out well - I would prefer some buttons, espcially with the microwave. You can't just pop something in and start nuking. YOu have to press the microwave button and then use the wheel to go down one selection and then press enter and then use the wheel to spin to a time and then you can finally hit start. They should have moved that up one level to make it faster.
You get several well built pans and racks with this, which is very nice bonus.
The instructions are overwhelming, but when you actually go to use the oven, it makes sense.
Putting the water in for the steam function is very easy - a little box/cup thing comes out, you fill it and put it back in. done.
The auto sense microwave warming part works really well. I always want to doubt that it will work, but it actually does.
Overall it's a very intelligent unit, looks gorgeous and can completely replace your oven and microwave. Downside is that interface, which although it is slick, I don't much care for it and seems to require more thought than I care to put into microwaving something.
I would give it 4.5 stars because of that - but really it's a very nice oven.
One more thing - oddly enough, it does not put out excessive amounts of heat compared to your regular oven. You can open it during cooking and not get blasted by heat (although you should be careful). And cooking the chickens didn't heat up my whole kitchen or apartment like the oven usually does. The steam will kick up the humidity, but not that much.
Update - I wanted to add that I made a Flan recently and it came out perfectly. Usually I make it in a regular oven in a water bath. I skipped the water bath and just put it into the Sharp and chose convection oven - it came out perfectly cooked from edges to the middle! Anyone who has made a Flan will know how hard it is to get the center to cook correctly without overdoing the sides. I was pretty happy with this.

Sharp's new SuperSteam Oven offers a unique combination of the healthiest ways to cook, all in one versatile appliance: SuperSteam Convection, Steam, Convection and Microwave. SuperSteam Convection is a combination of two types of cooking: superheated steam and convection heat. Sharp uses state-of-the-art technology to superheat steam. Unlike conventional steam, superheated steam helps brown and crisp foods on the outside, while adding moisture to the inside. When combined with convection cooking, the results are exceptional. Foods that are good for you look and taste better than you ever expected. The AX-1200S can also be used for traditional steaming, for microwave cooking or as a convection oven for baking or roasting.

This is a very badly designed door release.
The plastic construction will melt if you cook right below it.
I have it changed 2 times and still melted after 1 1/2 year.
The LCD is another cheap module.
It stops working properly after 1 year.
Don't waste your money on this.
Get a handle door release as oppose to press down door relase for over the range microwave oven and don't get this one.

I bought this for my new kitchen renovation. I was getting rid of the huge vent above the stove and wanted a nice place for a microwave that would vent. You can use it to vent up and out, or it can recycle the air and let it flow back in the room. I'm using it for the latter. The fan is very loud, I find, but not so bad that I wouldn't use it. The microwave is nice and has a lot of nice features on it like quick start (also known as Add 30 Seconds). I would recommend it. You probably won't find a better one for a price like this.

Perfect for freeing up counter space, this over-the-range microwave oven supplies 1000 watts of power and a sophisticated look that will nicely compliment any kitchen decor. Its spacious 1-3/5-cubic-foot interior contains a round 12-2/3-inch turntable that helps heat food evenly, plus a bi-level cooking rack for cooking more food at the same time. The unit features 10 power levels, auto and rapid defrost, auto reheat, add 30 seconds, and more/less control, as well as hold warm for keeping food warm until it's ready to serve and a low-wattage melt/soften setting for making hard butter soft or for melting chocolate without boiling or scorching. Other highlights include simple touchpad controls, an LED display, a clock and kitchen timer, a cooking-complete reminder, a child safety lock, an incandescent cooktop light, and a night light--great for those late-night snacks. I consider buying a kitchen appliance to be risky. The cost and labor involved to install means I am going to be stuck with whatever decision I make for years--unless I really mess up and have to replace it early. So I researched this purchase to death.
I replaced a worn out GE microwave/convection oven. Based on its performance and how we actually used the microwave, I decided to forget about any of the convection/speed cooking "bells and whistles" currently being offered. These features significantly increase the costs of the product, I question whether the features truly perform as marketed, and I am not sure they add value to our family. I decided to focus on (1) even microwave cooking, (2) convenience, and (3) aesthetics. That led me to this Panasonic model.
I am quite happy with this microwave. It isn't perfect, but it is a significant upgrade compared to our previous model.
The installation was easy, and instructions were good. I used my own longer screws to connect the bracket to the studs, but I am sure those provided are sufficient.
The microwave says "Genius" on the control panel. Genius may be a stretch but it has its strong points. Maybe it should say "Honors Student" or "Professor". The Sensor Reheat function works very well. Take something--anything--out of the fridge, put it in the oven, press Sensor Reheat, press Start, and it heats it very evenly without any thought by the user. My high school son, who is critical of almost everything at this stage in his life, uses this feature all the time. He recently said, "This is a serious upgrade," as he took his afternoon snack out of the oven. (I'd jokingly say that praise from him is as scarce as a Nobel Prize.)
The Inverter Turbo Defrost hasn't done a perfect job for me, but it gets the job done. Maybe a B, maybe B- grade. I defrosted 5 frozen half chicken breasts, following directions per owner's manual, including a rest period afterwards. The first problem is that the Inverter Turbo Defrost feature will not work unless the turntable is operating. A 9x13 baking dish fits into the oven, but it is too large to use with the turntable activated. So, it was difficult for me to spread out the chicken breasts. I packed the chicken into a 9x7x2.5 baking dish and it worked... but not completely evenly. Some frost and some signs of being actually cooked. Same results with other scenarios, but not as pronounced. It is still a valuable tool, but to fully execute a near-perfect defrost, I'd have to use power level and time manually, or maybe divide the frozen food into two batches. (Feeding my family a half-sized entree is not acceptable.)
The sensor cook feature... I have never been a fan of a microwave oven having a set list of items that it can cook with a push or two of button(s). What about the items that **I** want to prepare? It has "hot dog" and "frozen pocket sandwich," but doesn't have "burrito". ;-) Maybe a burrito is #6, "frozen entree"? Well, it appears to be across the industry, so no use complaining. The popcorn feature works perfectly. i tried the rice option, and wasn't happy, but I might have done something wrong. We've observed what it is doing with power level and time and manually cooked things like the famous blue box of macaroni and cheese, etc., with very acceptable results. Lots of other possibilities here for a person to learn from the auto settings and copy using the manual capabilities, but I'd like to be able to program the 18 numbers myself.
One point... Panasonic attempts to make extensive use of lower power levels with its "automatic" features. So... it may take a relatively long time to cook something using sensor cook. I think the trade off is worth it in many situations, as the food is cooked quite evenly. Sometimes, a person may want to just "nuke" the item. This microwave cooks faster on full power than my previous microwave.
Another point... As I mentioned, the term "Genius" is on the control panel. But let's explore what a genius would do if a person handed them food and wanted it cooked. Would the genius ask each person how much the item weighed, time and time again? I think a genius would get a scale and weigh the items so he/she wouldn't have to ask each person. Wouldn't it be great if the microwave had an internal scale and didn't prompt the user for the weight?
Much of the work on the control panel is accomplished by turning the knobs. I was hesitant, at first. But it isn't a problem. I can no longer set the time for 22 seconds, as the scale jumps as you increase the time. For example, to get to 20 seconds, you turn the dial 12 "steps". 1-10 are one second apart, then the steps are five seconds apart. When you get to a minute, the steps are ten seconds apart, and so on. Whatever... it's different than a keypad but it works.
One feature that surprised me, and I really like? The sensor/menu, time/weight and start controls illuminate when they can be used in whatever process you are working on. When the start button can be pressed, a little blue light next to it lights up. Seems silly, but the control panel layout and lighting makes operation in the dark work just fine.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this microwave. It is hard to believe that something that cooks food this evenly, looks this good and looks this solid is offered at this price. I think it is a steal given its abilities.

Wow, after reading the other reviews I had to throw my 2 cents in. It's big all right but that's the only point I have in agreement with the other reviewers.
I've had the R-930CS for almost a year. It really lives up to what Sharp says it does. It bakes, broils and microwaves -- all well! I use it to cook meat and it's done a great job on steaks, fresh sausage and chicken.
It also has a nifty feature called Sensor Cook, which is intelligent microwaving. It works for a number of foods including vegetables, frozen entrees and hot dogs. I use it for hot dogs, actually frozen hot dogs. I had no idea how long to cook a frozen hot dog. Not a problem. Slap a couple on a plate, hit Sensor Cook - Hot Dog and the oven does the rest. They come out perfect.
Would I get this oven if I just needed a microwave? Of course not. ( I'm not even sure what you use a 1.5 cubic foot microwave for.) But if you need a microwave and a regular oven all in a countertop package, the R-930CS is great.
The cleanup of this oven is easy too. None of the horror stories from the early generation microwave convection combos. This one is stainless steel on the inside. No protruding parts. It (so far) cleans up with a damp paper towels or sometimes with a bit of dishwashing liquid.
