I have had this dishwasher since October of 2010. I was a little leary based on other reviews I have seen on this model.
The reviews I've seen are either very good, or VERY bad. I went ahead and gave it shot. It does a great job of cleaning my dishes and is also VERY quiet. I don't have to prewash my dishes like I did with my old Whirlpool which is a plus.
You'll want to make sure to use a rinse aid EVERY wash, because it will affect the drying. You also do not want to open the dishwasher at all during the drying process, it will throw it off.
Glad I got one of the better ones and not a lemon like I've heard

This dishwasher is horrible. It's a bottom-of-the-line product that ships from the factory with known leaking issues. If you have this dishwasher and want to see what I mean, run your dishwasher empty. It will leak all over the floor.
For the second time in three months, I've had to call a repair person to come fix it. The power won't even turn on.
This dishwasher is less than a year old.
Garbage.

KitchenAid KUDS40FVPA 24in Dishwasher - Panel Ready Review

We had a "builders model" dishwasher in our house for 10+ years. Worked fine, but was beginning to leave food on dishes and was pretty loud. After a couple of weeks of research we decided on the Architect II. There seems to be some give and take with any dishwasher, and we wanted the price to be around $1,000.00.
The Architect II series has been voted best dishwasher by a very respected consumer reporting agency, and has more good reviews than bad ones on various sites, so we decided to bite the bullet.
We live in Washington State, and knowing the dishwasher was coming from NYC I was a bit worried about damage in route. I told the delivery guy I was going to need to inspect the unit before he brought it inside, and he was really nice about it. He cut open the box, got the unit off it's pallet and walked away to let me inspect...flawless delivery.
The unit is all stainless inside and out, with the exception of the door exterior (which requires panel installation). I'm waiting on a cabinet guy to bring the panel...we have pretty unique cabinets so he had to order from a Canadian company after searching for a while (something for you to consider before buying).
I installed the unit in about an hour, but if you're not that handy I would recommend professional installation. The unit required hard-wire installation, which may be standard for dishwashers...I'm not sure, so you might be running to the hardware store.
I put a few pre-rinsed dirty dishes in it to begin, maybe a 1/4 load. The first wash is used to calibrate the internal food sensors, so it takes longer than your average load. Dishes looked good, dry, so I filled it up and now use it once a day at least (we're a family of 4).
This is by far the best dishwasher I've owned. I no longer rinse, in fact, I'm trying to challenge this thing...I can put the cooked-on grime from a slow-cooker on the top rack and it doesn't matter...they come out clean.
My wife laughs at me because I'm excited about washing dishes. It's kinda like my new toy. It's a power-tool I get to use everyday.
I would highly recommend this dishwasher to anyone shopping around. I can't wait for my panels get here and the dishwasher is camouflaged into the cabinetry.

I've owned this dishwasher for about a year and a half, and for the most part it has performed very well. However, recently it seems to like to stall in the middle of its cycles for no reason. The knob just stops turning while it's on, so it may keep running "in place" and won't progress beyond that point. We haven't had it serviced yet to find out what the resolution might be, but it's very frustrating to have to take your dirty dishes out of the dishwasher to clean in the sink because it won't do what it's supposed to do. And, the water in the dishwasher sits in there until I scoop it out. The filter has been cleaned, so that's not the culprit.

Model DW18 - 18Dishwasher White

I bought this dishwashwer off of a different site where I got it a little cheaper and paid less in shipping costs.
Overall it's not a bad little dishwasher for the price. I did a bit of a remodel on a very small 50's galley style kitchen and really wanted a dishwasher but could only manage to squeeze in one of these 18 inch models.
It's great that you can get something that will fit in a small space. It appears to be doing a pretty good job on the dishes. The instal was completed by a plumber because I was having multiple items installed including a garbage disposal and didn't want to risk doing all the work myself, but it appeared to not be to difficult to instal yourself if you needed to.
I don't really have much to compare it to but so far I haven't really had a problem with noise. It's not quiet but it not so loud that it bothers me while I'm watching TV or whatever in the next room.
This little machine does have a few different settings for heavier pots/pans, regular wash, crystal/glass, etc. It also hase a nice stainless interior although the shelves are plastic coated metal of some type.
The only real issue I have with this dishwasher is that the shelves are set up a little odd. The top drawer has some weird plastic things that fold over the tops of the glasses (maybe to hold them down?). The bottom shelf has a couple rack sections, one for plates/sausers etc that can be folded down flat to put bigger items and on for the rest of your stuff that is permanantly attached and doesn't fold down. Being only 18 inches you can get a good bit in but you really have to be creative and you're not going to fit a whole lot of large pans.
If you have the space obviously you'd probably be better off with a bigger model but for those who need something smaller this is a good option, especially considering the price.

This dishwasher has been discontinued...why is it even for sale on your site? We bought this dishwasher a little over 13 months ago and it just stopped working the other day....the repair man said the touch pad went bad ($300 fix) and that it is also under the Maytag recall due to the heating element catching on fire!!
Why is this dishwasher still for sale???????????? If smart, do NOT buy this dishwasher!

I had never heard of Danby until I started looking for a small under-counter dishwasher for a small space. Then I discovered that Danby is one of the biggest companies nobody had ever heard about. (Note that the review template from Amazon doesn't mention the name.) Those who had used the units were satisfied and so I ordered one. Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise. The unit was easy to install (though the instructions were confusing) after cutting out the opening, but the surprise came when we started using the unit. For one thing, it calls for a rinse product as well as dishwasher soap, and for another, it has a built-in water softener, very important here in western Minnesota. What blew me away was how clean the thing got our dishes, even without the rinse product. I've had Kenmore and I've had Kitchen Aid, and THIS IS THE BEST DISHWASHER I HAVE EVER HAD! Especially for under $400.00, shipping and all! I may change my tune a year or five down the line, but this little Danby is built like a Sherman tank, and with high quality all down the line. Based on my limited experience, I can recommend this item highly.

Samsung DMT800RHS Fully Integrated Dishwasher - Stainless Steel Review

Samsung DMT800RHS Fully Integrated Dishwasher - Stainless Steel

I have had this model only about a week, and I like it a lot so far. I replaced a 13 yr old Whirlpool that was still working, just really noisy. I was a little hesitant at first seeing some of the DMT300 reviews on dish drying, but my unit does not seem to be having any trouble with this. I used the rinse aid as suggested and our dishes are dryer and cleaner than with our old dishwasher.
I like the display on the front that indicates which cycle it is in. The control buttons are hidden on top, so the cool blue indicator lights on front are nice. The inside of the unit seems bigger than our old model, and it is definitely bigger than some of the Bosch units we looked at. While it is not "silent", I find the noise level to be quite low.
This unit is easy to install yourself, however there are a couple of important points that you should know if you are replacing an old dishwasher:
1) The unit does not come with a power cord, so make sure to pull the one from your old unit. Actually, this is pretty absurd not to have one!
2) You must add a 90 deg, 3/8" elbow for the water line. It also is not included so you will have to buy one. Again, this is absurd!
3) You don't need to keep the drain hose since it is attached to the back of the unit.
4) The power and water supply are on the front bottom of the unit behind the kickplate. Nice for access, however if your old parts are not long enough to reach to the front then you will need new ones.
Overall I am pleased with the unit so far. If anything changes I will update my review.

We bought this stainless steel dishwasher about a month ago. I loved the look and the price, along with its touted quality. After many uses, however, I am not very impressed. I hope that with a different detergent I will get better results.
Pros:
-it's pretty.
-you can put a lot of plates in it.
-it's very quiet.
-it has lots of timing options.
-it has a cool sounding ding when you press the buttons (which are hidden: an added pro).
-price, considering its appearance.
-built-in garbage disposal. (I do feel that this is somewhat misleading, since if you put your dishes in with that much food on them, the likelihood of them coming out clean is low.)
Cons:
-I have only used one detergent in it (Electrasol Advanced), but have repeated trouble with unclean dishes, even when using the power scrub setting. Granted, I am putting knives coated in peanut butter in the dishwasher, but considering the brand and price, I think this is not unreasonable. The knives generally come out streaky and I have to scrub them and rewash. Ceramic plates seem to come out fine (plastic children's ones not so much, for some reason - more caked-on PB?), but I have trouble with cutlery and anything that had food stuck to it.
-the top rack does not adjust.
-the bottom rack, when pulled out all the way (like "normal" all the way, not "on the floor" all the way), ALWAYS comes off track and you have to fight with it to get it back in the dishwasher. This is perhaps my biggest pet peeve about this dishwasher.
-when opened, the handle rests on the floor. Mildly annoying, except when your foot happens to be in its path.
-due to the poor wash quality, I almost always have to use the power scrub setting.
-it seems that the wash cycle takes FOREVER. I realize I am using the power scrub setting, but really. My old Kenmore did not take nearly as long, and cleaned better. I can't believe I am saying this about a Sears product.

Yes this dishwasher is quiet, and it gets the dishes clean IF you scrape every bit of food off and/or pre-rinse--just was I was hoping to get away from with my old cheapie. I also do like the deep space on the top shelf. Negatives include: silverware baskets that force you to put your forks and knives in with the points up (dangerous), sticks out so far that ugly red light show comes on every time I bump it and it latches, top shelf made for formal china dishes, not everyday mugs and various refrigerator storage containers so loading a challenge, no energy-saving selection for drying so everything gets fried and uses a lot of electricity, no garbage grinder (to keep it quiet) which is why dishes need to be really clean going in, controls are difficult to figure out. Next time I'll do my own research rather than taking the word of others. This will help the house "show" well when it goes on the market, but I'm glad I don't have to live with it for a long time. Oh, and it took my VERY handy husband, who has installed a dozen dishwashers, two days to get this one in. He was NOT a happy camper.

With this product Bosch is trashing its quality reputation.
We had a model SHU5315UC for 10 years. It worked like a charm, quiet as a teakettle and only gave off a slight 'hiss' that you couldn't hear 10 feet away. Unfortunately two off the pushbuttons went -- after 10 years no issue -- so we decided to replace with the equivalent model.
This is the one we got. Once it was installed and we ran it we couldn't beleive how loud it is -- yet it rates quiter than the old one! (52 db versus 54 db) -- HA HA HA. We can hear this both in the next room and upstairs --and it sounds like a cross between a herd of buffalo and Niagra Falls.
I immediately called Bosch and to their credit they send a certified technican out first thing this morning. His comment was this is what it should sound like. Reason? They use more plastic and less sound insulation than your old one! How can that be if it's supposed to be more quiet than the old one?
I will never buy a Bosch product again based on their apparent move to cheap construction.

We bought electrolux kitchen appliances despite advice that they were "hit or miss". The look and the features are very alluring, and they seemed to be worth the premium pricing. We also held Electrolux in high esteem due to their Swedish origin and strong reputation in the vacuum business. We hoped for a "hit".
This dishwasher was delivered and installed by the dealer. Some features listed in the literature were missing - like the corner cutlery basket covers - and we were told that those were only provided on the next model up in the line. I went back to the literature and found that there was NO WAY to have known this.
The door gasket was assembled improperly, such that the lower rack rubbed against it every time it was rolled in and out. The door didn't leak, but I was sure that over time the wear from the rubbing would lead to a leak. Had to get service to replace the gasket -- only cost my time and a couple of half days off work (but why should I have to do this).
We used the DW 3 or 4 times successfully, noting that it didn't fully dissolve the detergent powder. Six weeks into using it, the unit showed a "Leak Detected" code, and wouldn't work any more. I gave up another half day of work to wait for a service man to come and confirm that the leak code was indeed as I had reported on the phone - a total waste of my time. Turns out that this is a common failure in these units - Electrolux produces a repair kit to correct this engineering design flaw. But they DON'T freely distribute this kit for some reason. I had to wait 3 weeks for Elux to ship it to me directly (once, receiving the wrong part to fix the problem). Why on earth, can't they see to it that repairmen have one or two of these kits on their truck at all times?! Saves them money - costs me time and aggravation!

Still waiting for my dishwasher to work. Getting better and better at handwashing each and every day. This is modern living - supported by my investment in premium priced Electrolux appliances (sarcasm, if you didn't get it).
I have NO confidence in Electrolux appliance quality, and even less (;-) )in their ability to provide parts and proper service for the units under warrantee.
Meanwhile I have no recourse, because appealing to Electrolux is a bit like talking to a wall. Either they're overwhelmed because of the volume of calls they get on their poor quality products, or their idiots, or their interest ends when they have my money safely in their accounts. Nice business model, especially in a down economy. Good luck to them. Problem is, consumers need to get the word out to others who are considering the purchase -- after you pay, it's too late.
Best not to be lured in by the beautiful surfaces and attractive feature lists -- from my experience, these units are bone ugly!

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd never owned a Miele dishwasher before this one, but I'd heard the hype: cleans great, super-quiet, saves water, etc. So I bought one and found that most of the hype is false.
First, it's not that quiet. I wouldn't call it loud, but it's no quieter than my old Kenmore that was half the price.
It also doesn't fit dishes particularly well. I don't understand how Miele took a standard-sized dishwasher and made it hold only 2/3 the dishes of my old Kenmore, but somehow they did it. The rack layout just stinks.
But worst of all, this dishwasher is lousy for cleaning. In a typical load of dirty dishes (no rinsing by hand), 6-10 items don't get clean. Primary offenders are the frontmost and rearmost plates on the bottom rack, any silverware in the top (third) rack, and cups facing downward. They are left with bits of food. Mind you, I am not a novice at loading a dishwasher and I followed the recommended patterns in the manual. Simply put, the cleaning capability is the worst I've seen in a modern dishwasher. Since this is also the most expensive dishwasher I've ever owned, that's bad.
I had the machine checked out by an authorized Miele service technician, who found nothing wrong. So I took advantage of Miele's "love it or return it" policy, got my money back, and purchased a KitchenAid KUDE70CVSS for a few hundred dollars less. You can read my review of the KUDE70CVSS on Amazon too. (Hint: the title is "This dishwasher rocks!!!")

I have been in the upscale appliance retail and wholesale business over 20 years. I was there when Fisher & Paykel first came to the US with their top load washer; such a well designed machine that is is still available (albeit with some cosmetic upgrades) at an affordable price. I owned one of their washers for eight years and only ever had one problem with it which was self imposed - I put 2 bath mats in the washer and the machine freaked out and shut down in the spin cycle. I called F&P and we were able to fix the machine by phone.
When the dishdrawer hit our shores some 12-14 years ago, it was a mess. There was almost a 50% failure rate on the machines. You would think that this would have sunk the concept and the brand in the US, but I believe the consumer did respond positively and Fisher & Paykel soldiered on, improving the product, reducing failures and gaining market share. As each new version hit the market, the product steadily improved and so did our sales. I believe the last generation (version 7) was glitch free.

Recently, I did a major remodel of my house and decided to install a double dishdrawer. I must say that is does a great job washing the dishes (I don't rinse), it's quiet ( I have a large open floor plan w/vaulted ceilings and tile floor and I can't hear it running).
So, like many companies whose product is viable, F&P finally got it right. The blogosphere is ubiquitous and everlasting, so this gets a bad rap. But kudos to F&P for sticking with it and getting it right. I believe many of the negatives out there are installation related and F&P takes the blame. So be it. But, this is a marvel of a product whose time has come; I am very happy and confidently promote this dishwasher to my customers.
The newest version is the best yet; they increased the overall height of the top drawer so it fits a 13" tall item and improved the racks. It just keeps getting better and better.......
I felt it was necessary to comment from a different angle; I both sell and own this product. I hear all of our customer's and my wife's feedback; I say this product has hit it's stride.

I should have known better! My old Kenmore died and I bought this noxious import because it a) fit in a 32" nook; b) I didn't want an ice maker; and c) it looked great. ("Sleek European styling") I didn't know that it has a DC compressor and emits a constant whine (or bass hum, buzz or hum, depending on the cycle). At its worst it is like having a truck idling in your kitchen. But you always hear it. The noise kicks in even if you haven't opened the door in an hour, and cycles last from 30 minutes to what seems like hours. The sales rep I finally reached via the escalation dept. confirmed that it's not a question of decibels, but of frequency. As for noise complaints I found after it was too late, he reluctantly admitted that, yes, there are some people who find the noise really disturbing. Or as the repairman told me, "I know it's loud, but that's normal for this thing. That's just the way they make them these days," he said, and showed me how the high speed compressor was attached to the back of the machine with a few screws and with absolutely nothing to soften the sharp whine it makes most of the time. My Kenmore rumbled a bit but it never, ever made that awful shrill piercing relentless whine. I can hear it in my office or bathroom adjacent to the kitchen but not upstairs or in the shower. I can't even imagine what this thing would be like in an apartment!
These new compressors are a known issue, which is something I wish I'd found out before I bought this thing from Albert Lee appliances in Seattle. You'll find complaints about GE, Frigidaire, Kenmore and others. But at 17.3 cf, most of them are half the price of this sleek European mediocrity.
Not everyone is sensitive to noise. If you're oblivious to tv test patterns, dentists drills, high tension wires or a speaker when you leave the stereo on, you might think it was pricey but okay. At least it's prettier than the white molded plastic you usually see.
But if you think that hearing your fridge when you're in another room at twice the price, either buy a mid-priced fridge with the same or more features, or get a Sub Zero for $3,000, and steer clear of Fisher & Paykel products. This is by far the worst appliance I have ever owned.

Rethinking how to store and preserve your food - Fisher & Paykel was on a mission when it created Active Smart, an advanced refrigeration system. Active Smart uses unique electronic intelligence to continuously monitor and adapt its cooling conditions, adjusting the flow of cold air based on daily use and climate conditions. So it's not working overtime or under par - just smarter and more efficiently. Even the produce bins provide maximum care. Humidity controls keep lettuce green, herbs garden-fresh and fruit crisp for up to two weeks. What about the homemade gazpacho in the refrigerator, or the just-churned ice cream in the freezer? Independent sensors accurately monitor temperatures in both compartments to maintain the safest, most precise temperature.

No, I had not heard of this brand either when I went out looking for a refrigerator to replace my 30 year old GE.
Our problem is space. Even though I certainly wouldn't mind a huge Viking or something, the reality was around 18 cu ft. I went all over the place, looked at every brand and found that most companies spent their best efforts on the bigger models.
Then, I saw a Fisher and Paykell. It was the right size, had a beautiful simple design and the use of interior space was better than others in its size range. It had the desired bottom freezer, the controls were simple and made sense, the trays for fruits and vegetables were easy to access and the glass shelves could be adjusted, removed and cleaned easily.
Style-wise, I was drawn to the clean, curved door design made of smooth metal rather than textured plastic. I needed white, but the stainless is extremely good looking. F&P also now offers models with dispensers in the door.
Note that the doors are not reversible so you have to order the left or right door version.
The glass shelves extend from side to side and slide into little slots. It is easy to slide them out for cleaning or adjustment. Surprisingly, the little plastic dams that surround almost all glass shelves these days are absent on the ends of these shelves. I strongly suggest that you get a couple of shallow plastic trays to hold meat or other drippy things. That is probably a good idea for any fridge, actually.
There is no dedicated meat compartment I suspect a special separate compartment would break up the interior and isn't really needed anyway. The wide expanse of shelves is what makes this interior special.
We took out one of the shelves to free up space for big and tall things.
There are two little lidded compartments in the door that we use for butter and cheese. They are not very big and certainly could have been designed to hold more in the same space they occupy.
The fruit and vegetable trays are lidded and separate, with little adjustable vents to control the humidity. They slide nicely, access is good and cleaning is easy.
We like the bottom freezer. It uses a system of separate drawers, rather than one big bin. This is a good high-end touch and the real drawer sliders make it nicer to use. The bins on other models seemed terribly cheap in comparison.
The lighting in the fridge section is fine. The drawer system for the freezer part precludes a lighting system, at least one that wouldn't be impossibly complex. But, the bins slide out and it is easy to see in them under normal kitchen light.
On another site, a reviewer complained that a glass shelf broke. They do look a little vulnerable as they are so long and thin. However, we stored two turkeys on one shelf with no problems. Tempered glass is very strong and I would think problems would be rare.
There were also a couple of complaints about noise. Our kitchen is like a stage where every sound is projected into the adjacent living room. Still, I can hardly hear it and it is rarely even on anyway. This may be a princess and the pea situation. In our case, the old fridge was 20x noisier, so this is fine.
Operation-wise, we are very happy. The fruits and vegetables do indeed last much longer than before, the ice cream (even Ben & Jerrys) is hard and the ice doesn't stick.
One oddity is that even when the feet are adjusted to tilt the unit back a bit, the doors will not close all the way on their own. The formidable gaskets hold it back. But not to worry. The door-open alarm will not let you forget. It will probably rid your house of rodents and insects.
We are happy with this fridge. It looks great, has about as much utility as possible in its size range and works well. I am hoping it will be reliable.

We've own this dishwasher for about a year. I wrote a review someplace when I first got it describing how much I hated it, but after one year I've come to the conclusion that there is one feature that makes this dishwasher really, really nice. You can take out the top rack, and then with a little piece ( that you have to purchase extra- online) you put it over the place that the water comes out for the top rack. It's just a cheap piece of plastic that makes like a water shower out of the back. But what that does is make it possible to put really big items in the dishwasher to wash. I wash my trash cans all the time in there and washing trash cans is one of my least favorite chores so after having this dishwasher for a year I realize how valuable that is. I wash other large things too. Without the top rack there is a lot of room in there. The other really good thing is that it is very quiet. It still is a major pain to load. small cereal type bowls just can't find a good place to fit, and it doesn't hold nearly as much as my old dishwasher, even though that one had a post in the center, and it doesn't wash as well. However, it does wash very good, just not as well as my old dishwasher. It's not really a "potscrubber" With just the two of us at home now, or 3 when my son is home from college it is working out well. So despite my scathing first review, the truth is I now like this dishwasher mostly because I can wash really tall things in it. By the way, I'm basing this review on the picture, this is what my dishwasher looks like, none of the other pictures match.
