(More customer reviews)I may be influenced by our terrible 10-year old Amana side by side refrigerator which died before we bought this one, but this one is a pleasure by comparison. Our choices were limited by our shallow cabinet height -- even so, the cabinets needed a bit of trimming and the hinge covers on the box removed before it fit. But once settled into its spot, we turned it on and after 6 months we couldn't be happier. What we like: 1) temperatures remain rock solid in both refrigerator and freezer (and there are digital readouts to monitor; 2) Ice cream stays firm; 3) French door design is a dream -- easy access to every part of the refrigerator; 4) water dispenser works great, has filter with a need-change indicator; 5) Icemaker is fast; 6) quiet operation, hardly know it's there; 7) flexible shelving; 8) counter depth makes a nice blend with our cabinets; 9) rollers (with brakes) makes it easy to move out for cleaning behind. The one negative, which is endemic to this particular design, is that the bottom freezer is basically a tub with a pull-out shelf, making some buried items difficult to find. But we open and use the refrigerator far more often than the freeze, so the compromise is well worth it. So far, Bravo.

(More customer reviews)I have had a GE Profile bottom freezer refrigerator for just over a year. I was limited by the space available, but we were able to make adjustments. We purchased a model similar to the one shown, but without the ice maker as I was wary, given the reviews I've read about problems with those. If I had it to do over again, I would try to find an alternative to GE. Initially, things seemed to be working reasonably well. Then, within a few weeks, cracks appeared in the plastic surround of the bottom glass shelf that holds the crisper drawers. After playing telephone tag for another few weeks, we were sent a replacement part. Unfortunately, it was the wrong part. A further round of calls and missteps finally produced the right replacement. Shortly after that, one of the crisper drawers began freezing the produce. I made sure the vents were not obstructed and experimented with different settings of both the refrigerator and freezer. Nothing I tried solved the problem. I called the company where it was purchased and they gave me the name and number of the Authorized Service Dealer. A call to them proved futile. They wouldn't make a service call since they hadn't sold the item. After a long back and forth with the company and the dealer (a large national retailer), we were finally able to get someone to come take a look. And, that's what the service person did. He came. He looked. He shrugged, said I had done everything he would have suggested. He left. The problem persists. The crisper drawer is useless for storing produce, but is a handy place to temporarily hold meat before wrapping to go into the freezer. It's also not bad for quickly chilling white wine. Fortunately, I have an Amana refrigerator that I've had running for over 30 years that keeps my produce in perfect condition. It's in the basement, so we get added exercise running up and down stairs when preparing meals. I have heard that GE was no longer the reliable company it used to be, but this is pathetic. I will be extra vigilant in future to avoid their products. I may even stop watching NBC - not that I do that much now. BUYER BEWARE!!

(More customer reviews)Our old Amana refrigerator was twelve years old and starting loosing the ability to keep food cold in the food part of the unit. After tracing the problem down to a basic design flaw, I was not sure I wanted to purchase Amana again, however, it seems most refrigerators are made by one or two makers. Thus, I went on a quest for the best looking unit for the money.
Amana has changed some of the layout for food placement, but basically this one has ample room for all the things that you want to put into a refer. It even has an extra wide door rack that will hold one gallon milk jugs with ease. This model did not have an ice maker, or a covered storage space for eggs. It does have temp controls at the top at the front for both freezer and food areas. There is also a covered storage area for butter, and a special drawer for meats and cheeses. The shelves are glass, sturdy, and adjustable. There is also ample lighting in both the freezer part and the food part of the unit.
Easy Reach is a brand name by Amana given to those units with the freezer component on the bottom. Some open like a door and this one like a drawer. The freezer does NOT have and ice maker, or even ice cube trays. The drawer is easy to use and will hold lots of frozen goods. I have not filled it yet, so I cannot say how well it keeps large quantities frozen.
To see this unit in action, watch "two and a half men" , and when they shoot a kitchen scene, the refer is this model. I discovered this after I made my purchase. Just shows that no one pays attention until you research.
For under $[...] delivered and installed, and taking away my old, and a $[...] energy rebate, the Amana ABL2222FES is a good buy.Carpetguru

(More customer reviews)I've had the refrigerator for a month now and it's been nothing but fantastic. There's so many fine touches to this refrigerator you really feel that samsung put a lot into their engineering/design of this fridge. First of all the fridge is huge. I really didn't pay much attention to the bottom freezer design until my girlfriend pointed out the convenience of having the refrigerator section on top. I can't go back to have a top freezer fridge.
The bottom freezer handle has tilt and pull design which I haven't seen in any of the other manufacturers. This means as you pull the handle towards you it tilts and actually pushes away from the frame of the refrigerator. You can see this when you play with the handle. The freezer compartment is intelligently designed to be able to hold whatever you throw at it. It passed the frozen pizza test with an actual slot for sliding them in.
The ice cube maker is inside the refrigerator rather than the door which is preferable in my opinion. This keeps the doors light while being able to hold more ice. You'll also notice that there aren't any rubber seals that rub against each other when you close the french doors. Rather they designed a unique mechanism which is a bit hard to describe. Other refrigerators we've seen had rubber seals that rubbed against each other which is bound for tearing in the future.
The interior layout, deli pantry, and shelves all work well. What's awesome about the refrigerator is the twin cool. Now, I was told by the sales guy this helps with freezer burns. I haven't had anything in the fridge long enough to tell, but for certain it's nice to have that funky smell you get in the freezer when you have one cooler driving air to both compartments. My girlfriend notice her vegetables kept fresh. She commented how you normally have to chop up green onions to keep them fresh but they stayed fresh for two weeks without chopping them.
Cons. Well, there are a few of them but I wouldn't consider them cons but you'll notice them and quickly forgive. The ice maker is a bit loud when it drops the cube. Other than that the fridge is extremely quiet. Did I mention you can set temperature from the lcd panel and things stay extremely cool. Don't open the fridge naked.

Pros:
1. Very nice modern looks.
2. Huge usable volume in the refrigerating compartment.
3. Ice-maker is not in the freezer, thus eliminating odors in the ice.
4. Water filter is easy to replace.
5. Reasonably energy efficient.
6. Excellent price and great value.
Cons:
1. Freezer volume is just par for the course.
2. A substantial part of the door panel shelf space is taken up by the ice-maker.
3. Ice/water dispenser is buried very deep and does not accommodate tall glasses.
4. Freezer generates a noticeable amount of frost.
5. Shutting one side of the French door may shake the other side open.

(More customer reviews)Looks nice but ... a carton of milk on the top shelf and a 2L coke on the door had chunks of ice within a day. I raised the temp setting to 39, then 40 degrees and waited 48 hours, same problem. I called LG Customer Service, I was told that was to be expected since cold air vents were located in those places. Their solution is to put my milk on a lower shelf. I called back and talked to a different rep, identical response. Neither rep would connect me to a supervisor. Although the 2nd rep did offer to schedule a service call, it would be at my expense since they consider that to be normal.
LG customer service was so bad. I felt like their purpose was not to help, but rather to get me off the phone. Both reps gave such similar responses, it seemed as if they were reading from a script.
I finally did got the refrigerator repaired, but only after I filed a dispute with my credit card company. At this price point, it shouldn't be this frustrating to get service.

(More customer reviews)We saw the Amana French-door bottom-freezer fridge about a year ago and fell in love with it. As it turns out, we have had a fairly mixed experience with it.
I'll say that there are quite a few things that we like about it. Overall, we like the layout and flexibility of this fridge a lot. All of the shelves are adjustable to allow for customizing the space for what we need. The layout makes the fridge feel bigger than the other 25 CF fridges we've used or looked at. The quality of the ice maker and water filtration is nice. I do find the bottom-freezer a nice feature for our family. The best feature of the French-doors for us is that they don't swing open as wide as conventional doors, which is good for energy usage and for not blocking passage through our tight kitchen. They're also convenient when you have to grab something quick out of the door.
That said, after using it a while, there are a few things that we don't like about this fridge:
1) After a few months of use, it started getting kind of loud. As it turns out, this was the sound of the cooling fan dying. When it finally died, we had no cold air in the fridge compartment. It was still under warranty, but I wasn't happy about replacing the fan after only about 7 months. (It's still occasionally louder than I'd prefer, but most of the time it is OK.)
2) The water filter dispenser is on the inside of the fridge compartment rather than on the outside of the unit. Combined with the fact that its flow is a little on the slow side, it seems to me that a lot of energy is wasted each time I have to leave the door open for 30 seconds to get a glass of water.
3) The top cover of the Chef's Pantry drawer is not the highest quality component. It pops off once every two weeks or so for me (though, in fairness, my wife doesn't report this problem, so it might just be me). It's easy to put back on, but something I don't feel that I should have to worry about with a $1600 fridge.
Overall, we probably would buy the same fridge again. I'd probably pass on the water filtration option until they figure out a way to get access from the outside of the fridge. I'd probably also want to make sure to get the extended warranty.

(More customer reviews)Not only does GE make the most worthless piece of cr@p appliances, they also have the all-time worst customer service.
Have gone through two of these refrigerators. The first one shook and squeaked like crazy every time we opened its door. The repair tech's solution was to "level" the fridge. They "leveled" the fridge over 10 times in 18 months. The first fridge also frequently made a very loud, random clicking noise. The noise could be heard over the TV, movies, etc... It was extraordinarily disturbing, especially when the family is trying to have a quiet dinner or even watch a movie in the living room. After going through hell (about 20-30 hours on the phone and over a dozen useless, failed service calls) GE finally replaced the fridge (only because the developer of our new house forced the local sales rep to replace it; GE customer service basically told us to F-off). And the new fridge makes an even louder clicking sound! WTF?!
Avoid ALL GE products like the plague. They are a worthless company that doesn't give a rat's a55 about customer service and cares even less about taking thousands of your hard-earned dollars in exchange for a useless product that is designed to fail miserably.

I made the mistake of assuming it would be a better quality since it cost so much more than the competition. WRONG! Inside glass shattered first time i cleaned it. i bought 3 year warranty and basically useless. Takes a minimum of 20 min to preheat. broiler takes a minumum of 20 min to get food lightly browned.

(More customer reviews)Bought this frig at Home Depot just a little over a year ago...Big regrets. Looks nice, yet simple and the freezer does okay. Now for the bad: Refrigerator section on lowest setting (7) will only cool to mid to high 40s. We have moved all items from the center to allow for free air flow and that helped a bit but still couldn't get it into the 30s (close but no banana). If you live in areas such as Greenland or Siberia and are looking for something to keep your food and brewskies from freezing this might work for you. If you're looking for a good frig you might want to avoid this one (or any LG).
Update 2/20/11: My wife pointed out (with receipt in hand) that this box is still under warranty (bought in May 2010). That's the good news. I contacted LG personnel and that went well and I wasn't forever on hold (more good news). The bad: Service Tech came out, confirmed the temp was in mid 40s but was unsuccessful in making the repair. Talked to him later and he said LG recommended replacing some ducts...This is not looking good. Also: Consumer reports rates this refrigerator at the bottom of their list (and surprisingly a different model LG that is up at the top). Hindsight, ya got'a love it.

(More customer reviews)I bought my house, and found that the previous owners had done their own kitchen remodel which left a really strange size cutout for the fridge. It took me weeks to find this one which (as far as I can tell) is the only counter depth and narrow refrigerator. Anyway, it is a good fridge. No complaints. The fridge is cool looking, but the only reason that I can think someone would buy this one is for size. If you aren't restricted by size, I would look at a wider fridge.
Good things to know... There is an inline water filter (works good, easy to change), ice maker doesn't take up too much room, the fridge is counter depth (they don't advertise it as such but you can tell by the dimensions and the back is flat). The inside is small but the fridge doesn't look freakishly small. Oh, the ice maker is temperamental; it doesn't bother me but if you love ice this could be a problem.
Almost no one carries these; if you need to "see" it I found a Samsung at the big box retailers that is about the same size. If more than two people live in your house, or you like to buy big soda bottles, etc., maybe take a peek at something with similar dimensions before you buy.

(More customer reviews)I LOVE the look of my new fridge. It's unique. I love having 2 separate handles for each of the freezer compartments. Stores a ton more stuff than it looks. Keeps the food very cold. In fact, I had to dial down the cold air on several occasions when I first got the fridge, esp. in the winter.
The taste of the water from the water filtration system is not bad. BUT....the water dispenser totally sucks. I'm constantly spilling water because the spout is soooo close to the "water-push" button that a cup barely fits between the spout and the button. If you put the cup lower (below the "water-push" button, the water splashes out of the cup. The ice, esp. the crushed ice, always splash out of the cup. I'm constantly cleaning the fridge area because I'm constantly splashing water and/or ice. If the spout could have been placed an extra 1cm outward, it probably would have helped this problem greatly. Also, if the ice dispenser could dispense the ice more gently, it would also have helped

(More customer reviews)Got the GX5SHDXV model, similar to the one shown, about a week ago. It was originally $1298 at Lowes, but the floor model had paint scratches, so they marked it down to $1k. Lowes delivered it (an adventure in itself) but I installed it and set it up. So far so good, it's quiet, makes lots of ice quickly, and has the Energy Star qualification that should save $$ on my electric bill.
There is only one gallon storage shelf in the door; I wrote Whirlpool to send me another to replace the can dispenser shelf that I won't use.
The refrigerator drawers slide nicely, as does the freezer compartment drawer.
The paint finish is very good, once I cleaned off all the tape residue from Lowes (why do they do that?) I used auto detailing spray to make it shine.

(More customer reviews)I did up a big spreadsheet and read all the reviews I could before committing to this purchase. There are tons of negative reviews on the LG products so I was hesitant to pull the trigger. However, we loved the look of the stainless exterior and the ice maker/water dispenser design on the exterior wasn't available on other models. We made our purchase at a local retailer and I mentioned all of the poor reviews. The sales rep was a friend (of a friend) and he assured me they wouldn't sell LG if they had more problems than the other brands so we took a leap of faith.
So, we have had the unit now for over a year. Zero issues and we love it as much as the day we installed it. The stainless exterior still looks perfect (I use WD-40 on it for a great shine!) The interior design is very flexible, all the levels can be adjusted to fit. The doors hold open for loading at 90 degrees but close on their own at less than that. The compressor is nearly silent. It's not perfect, the ice maker occasionally gets frozen up, but we just pull the ice bin and shake it or remove the clump and it's good as new. Both doors must be opened to access the one larger drawer, a better design would have been to split it.
The counter depth size is great and makes it look built in. However, the interior is pretty small and it can be tough to get everything loaded. As I write this it's right after Thanksgiving and it was a battle to fit all the leftovers in it along with milk, juices and a case of beer. But it swallowed it all up. We have a small family and we barely make it work.

(More customer reviews)I actually have the EI26SS65GS which only differs slightly with the touch controls.
The high point of this refrigerator that makes it stand out from the crowd is that it is fully constructed in stainless steel while the others just have stainless steel cladding in the front but not on the sides.
This makes for a handsome refrigerator since this is not a counter depth model so the sides show.
Both freezer and refrigerator interior has ample storage. The interior lights have a nice effect of being initally dim at first and then fully brightens up.
A good point is the vacation mode you can set that saves electricity by not turning on the defrosting cycle when you are away.
My only grievance is the the design of the ice dispenser which delivers the ice (both cubes and crushed) which such force and intensity that the ice is spilled all over the floor and a clean up is always necessary. My 4 year old kid is so afraid to use it.
The delivery men do not install the water dispenser hose so I had to do it myself and it was somewhat of an effort threading it properly. I mis-threaded the first hose and had to buy an aftermarket replacement at $7. It seems that the original hose is hard to find item.
For the $2,500 we paid for it, we expected that the Ice dispenser flaw would have been discoverd and remedied before production.
FYI: unit made in Mexico.
