(More customer reviews)The Vinotemp VT-36 that I ordered directly from the manufacturer looks nice, keeps the wine at the right temperatures, and has all the features you would expect from a $900 wine fridge. However, it is extremely loud -- it apparently has a fan that cycles about every 20 seconds, and then the standard compressor that actually does the cooling comes on every 10 to 15 minutes. I expected the compressor noise, but the extra fan noise is ridiculously annoying. It is louder than my kitchen refrigerator, and I can hear the wine fridge a room away and with the TV on. This was not what I expected from a $[...] wine refrigerator. It is much louder than the $[...] one that I bought from Home Depot 6 years ago that this one was meant to replace.
Worst of all, the "customer service" at VinoTemp is pretty much non-existent. I expected that there was some problem that occurred in shipping that was causing the noise, and that they would either get someone out to repair it, explain how to troubleshoot it, or have me return it. Instead, I got an email that basically said "Oh, it's supposed to make that noise", and that was it. I told them I wanted to return it, and they pointed me to the fine print on their website that says that I can return it, but with a 35% restocking fee AND paying shipping both ways. Assuming shipping is the better part of $[...] each way, it would end up costing me $[...] to send it back. This was not the kind of quality or customer service that I expected in a $[...] wine fridge. I do not recommend this product or this company.

Vinotemp 60 Bottle Wine Cellar Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this item (in black) from Amazon.com and was so disappointed that I ended up returning it. Kudos to Amazon. They paid for return shipping and even reimbursed me for additional packing materials I needed to buy. Now, on to the review.
If you know a little about wine storage, you know that the ideal temperature for red wine storage is 55 degrees (Ideal drinking temperature is 60F). This is important, because if like me, you are purchasing the fridge for red wine storage only, you need to know that only the top 2 shelves maintain this temperature. With the digital thermostat set to 55, the mid and lower sections will drop an additional 10 degrees or more. Way too cool for red wine. So, immediately, your storage capacity is reduced from 60 bottles to say 12 (depending on bottle size).
In the end, I purchased a much smaller fridge, capacity 16 bottles. Because of its small size, it maintains almost the same temperature throughout (top to bottom). When I need more storage, I will buy another small wine fridge. A slightly more expensive option is to buy a fridge with an interior fan (to circulate the air), but these are hard to come by in this price range. If you are really serious about your wine, you'll want humidity control (which this fridge doesn't have). 55-75% humidity is ideal for wine storage as it prevents the corks from drying out and spoiling the contents.
The next major problem with this fridge is the racking. I placed two bottles of wine on the top shelf. The bottles dropped through the racking, and came crashing to the bottom of the fridge. I'm not sure what the interior is made of, but the impact of the bottles left two large dents in the floor of the fridge.
Of the dozen or so wine fridges I've looked at in the past few months, this has to be the worst.

(More customer reviews)I've had this unit for nearly a year now. After years of using the typical compactors on the market, this one 'gets it done'. The automatic operation keeps all the spongy trash pressed flat. The odor system and sealed door has proven itself with meat wrappers in the bin for days and no odor outside the unit. The bin and door may require 2 hands to open, but if you do like I did, tilt the unit a tad forward with its leveling feet and the bin will extend almost by itself when the door is opened. The design of the compaction system keeps clean unless you really fill it with wet, messy items and run it. Might have it run during the morning while your at work - I had mine start at 4am and a few times there were bottles that imploded under pressure and that will wake you up if near by. The door is reversible and the unit is much less noisy compared with the other brands.

Haier HVB050ABH Designer Series Wine Cellar with 50-Bottle Capacity Review

(More customer reviews)There was visible damage to the box when we received this on August 14, 2006 due to the inadequate Haier factory packaging. There was almost no protective Styrofoam or cardboard employed. After unpacking, we observed that there was cosmetic damage to the top rear, back panel and lower doorframe. We monitored and determined there was no mechanical damage.
We decided to keep the damaged wine cooler since the cosmetic defects weren't readily noticeable after I touched up the doorframe, and we put a large serving tray on the top. Amazon agreed on a partial refund that brought my net cost to approximately what I'd expect to pay for a nicked or dinged item at Home Depot.
This was the only wine cooler in this price range that had UV-protected tempered glass and a decent capacity. While it's not quite the advertised 50-bottle capacity, it's close. The variable is the bottom shelf--half shelf, actually. But still, plenty of capacity for us. This wine cooler does not have any sort of built-in thermometer, and the dial does not identify temperatures, it just indicates "cooler" around the knob. We bought a Chaney 00985 Wireless Digital Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer with Two Sensors, to measure and monitor the temperatures at both the top and bottom (where the whites and desserts are). I posted a review of that product also.
The wine cellar is a solid, heavy unit and it will likely hold up for many years. The fit and finish are good with no sharp edges, loose parts or gaps anywhere. The door closes completely, and is perfectly aligned. While this unit can be built-into cupboards, we are using ours as a stand-alone unit. There is some audible compressor sound when it's cranked itself up (infrequently) to maintain the temperature, but nothing overbearing. The subdued lighting is attractive. In fact I wish there was a separate switch so we could have he light on when the door is closed.
After reading reviews of these moderately priced consumer wine cellars, you should consider an extended warranty. We decided to get the 3-year in-home extended warranty ($30 at Amazon). Also, when you open the door for the first time, you'll see the door handle was run down through the center of all of the metal shelves for shipment. Open the door fully, then you can pull each of the shelves out part way to remove the handle. There's a yellow "Notice" sticker on the glass door with that obnoxious adhesive that won't remove easily. Strip off the top, shiny layer of the sticker, then use something like Goof-Off to rub off the gummy material. The aluminum doorframe had what appeared to be grease spots, apparently residue from the manufacturing process. We used some spray stainless steel cleaner and it cleaned up quickly and easily.
All in all, the Haier HVB050ABH Designer Series Wine Cellar is a good bargain at the $400 price. I believe the mechanics will hold up well, as will the unit itself. If not, we have the comfort of that 3-year extended warranty. If Haier had done a proper job with protective packaging, I might have rated this as a 5-Star product. Conversely, if Amazon.com hadn't responded as reasonably and satisfactorily as they did, I might have rated this at 3-Stars overall just because of the packaging and damage.

32 Bottle Dual Temperature Zone Wine Cooler Review

(More customer reviews)One good looking wine chiller. Absolutely love the steel capped racking. It can store up to 32 bottles evenly with 16 bottles in the right zone and 16 bottles in the left zone. This is a compressor free vibration-free thermoelectric powered cooling type unit. My personal preference given the absence of vibration which can wreak havoc on older wines with softer corks. It also minimizes the drying effect of compressor coolers. The shelves can be taken out so I can put in bottles of varying sizes, but it still looks the best with all the racks installed.
Solidly-built and beautifully designed, I'm surprised it doesn't retail for twice the price. That's why I love shopping on here! It keep temps very accurately and the dual-zones are a real must especially when the hubby likes sangioveses to my reislings.
It's a good size chiller for most needs and complements a contemporary setting perfectly. Thanks Amazon!

Whirlpool does not manufacture this unit, it only slaps its sticker on the front. So, Whirlpool would not do the Warranty work on the item. From a third-party authorized repair service, it costs twice as much to repair the unit as it worth.

And now after having it for only 15 months, without moving it, it has simply stopped cooling though the compressor runs non-stop. The only Vinotemp authorized technician in the entire Houston area basically said it would cost $200-300 to repair, with no guarantee that something else would not go wrong. He stated that all of these coolers require some maintenance or repair every 2-3 years.

(More customer reviews)For the sake of disclosure, we have the VT-32TEDS (not the 48) but they are essentially the same thing.
The positives: It looks great, matches our kitchen perfectly and fits under an oddly sized counter, which is about 3/4" too short for just about every other manufacturer. It also runs quietly, most of the time.
The negatives: Our cooler arrived rather unceremoniously in the middle of our lawn, oddly several feet off the path that leads to the door. I don't necessarily blame Vinotemp or Amazon for this, but is was an omen of things to come.
After hauling it into the kitchen, I noticed that it had a large dent in the back corner, so I call Vinotemp customer service. They said that because their products are securely packed (in a cardboard box w/o styrofoam padding) that the dent must have happened while we were installing it. They did give me the option of shipping it back to them, at my cost, so that they could take a look at it but not guarantee a replacement. Since the dent was in back corner, I decided to just suck it up.
As I moved it into place, I also noticed that the doors were poorly hung and lopsided by almost 1/4". My door fun continued as I went to attach the handles, only to find out that the screw holes were drilled almost a full inch off. Vinotemp agreed to send out new handles, but couldn't do anything about the doors being uneven.
Now I'm about 6 months in and the thermometer on the right side goes out, so rather than displaying the temperature, it continually flashed "LO". Again, customer service couldn't do anything, although one guy suggested that I buy a digital BBQ thermometer and just keep it in one of the wine slots. Since we aren't using this to age great wines and the right side was still some indeterminate level of cold, I once again decided to suck it up.
Somewhere around this time we also started having problems with ice build-up, which would rub against the fans causing them to squeal loudly and I think would eventually stop the fans and kill the motors. We figured out a method to defrost it, but it involves unloading the whole thing, hot water, bicycle water bottles and a lot of towels. Expect to do this 2-3 times a year. I realize that it is a fridge, but this seems a bit excessive.
Most recently, one of the control boards in the back went out, making a really annoying repeated buzzing sound and leaving one side at room temperature. They do sell replacements for this, but in now expected fashion, this was a problem as well. After calling to place the order & give them my CC#, they said that they would confirm the order via e-mail and then send it out. No e-mail, but they called the next day and confirmed the order with my wife. 2 weeks later no part. After I called again, they realized that they forgot to e-mail me the form that they needed signed & faxed (yes, faxed) back so that they could reconfirm and process the order. A week and a half later, I readied myself for my repair project, removed the back panel, but then quickly found out that they had sent the wrong part. Mistakes happen, so I e-mailed the customer service rep, explained the problem and asked if they could send out the correct part. She told me that I would need to call customer service and gave me the number to call. I called customer service, heard a familiar voice, and after checking the phone number in the e-mail, I confirmed that I was talking to the same person I had e-mailed 30 minutes prior. So, after repeating my story, effectively reading my original e-mail, she put me on hold... for 10 or 15 minutes. After all that I was rewarded with the knowledge that the part was on back order and that they would probably send it out in 2-4 weeks.
Given the numerous problems I have had with the product itself combined with the company and its employees, I couldn't recommend this to anyone that I didn't really dislike. This is really a poor product, wrapped in a pretty exterior, so it is a bad choice unless they were dressing a set or staging a house and don't need it to actually work for any length of time. Sorry Vinotemp, I really wanted to like it.

(More customer reviews)I was skeptical about buying a wine cooler site unseen but after comparing prices with those available at stores, this was kinda of a no-brainer. Package arrived quick and intact, thanks Amazon! I was mildly stunned when I opened the unit. I was not quite expecting something that looked as sharp as what I received. Love the stainless steel racks and handle, extremely sophisticated appearance. Not only was this considerably cheaper than than the in store models but this looked twice as good. I put the pieces together and got it running in no time.
It ran silent as one would expect for a thermoelectric and cooled down decently. Temperatures were spot on too. I was tempted to install this in cabinet but realized that the vents would require some clearance. Not a big deal as this looks great on it's own. The shelves are designed for the standard 750ml bottle but are completely removable so I can mix and match to store whatever size bottles I need to.
This far outweighed my expectations in almost all aspects. AAA+++!

(More customer reviews)The unit has a nice feature of being able to store white and red wines at your selected temp. The size is very good and was perfect for the area we wanted to place it. It holds the selected temp just fine but if the power is interupted you will need to reset your settings. It does have a few shortcomings... It is much louder than a standard fridge given it's size. The shelves that you must use to remove a bottle don't fit very well at all and they will drop out of their slots while in use. These wood shelves are all very cheaply made. The LED lights inside are all but useless. The door must be opened fully (180 degrees) in order to slide out a shelf to remove the bottle. We have a GE unit in another location that is a much better unit but only has single selected temp. It did cost nearly twice what this unit did.
If/when it dies I will not replace it with this brand or model. It proved to point that you get what you pay for.

Mr. Patrick, my experience with your company has been like MANY OTHERS on this website. The people I have had to deal with at Vinotemp have all been EXTREMELY RUDE and unhelpful! I received NO customer service at all.
If how I was treated is considered 'superior customer service,' then you are completely out of touch with what is actually going on at your company!
My first Vinotemp TEDS (made in China) had a thermostat that broke within 3 weeks, and the replacement wine cooler (which was also dented on top) broke within 6 weeks.
Unfortunately my second chiller was no longer covered under the initial product's 90 day warranty (I purchased the product in person at your company, not on Amazon). If it were not for my credit card's extended warranty I would be out nearly $350, not to mention my time and trouble, making two two-hour round trips to Vinotemp.
My entire experience with your company has been one big JOKE! Not only were both of my Vinotemp coolers absolute garbage, but the attitude and unwillingness to work with me, or even allow me return the product for a refund, does not even deserve one star here!
I will be purchasing a name brand wine cooler instead. My opinion is to STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM VINOTEMP PRODUCTS.

If it worked well I would not have a problem and it would get 5 stars, however it was unplugged and moved about 2 miles safely, sat for 48 hours then plugged back in...temp stays around 72. Too bad.

(More customer reviews)I did NOT purchase this cooler from Amazon and have been very happy with everything I have purchased from Amazon.
However, I did buy this item and it was a real lemon. Google this item before you buy! Be aware that this same item is sometimes sold as a 60-bottle cooler. I wish I had googled it! I found a number of reports from people who had the same problems I did. The item I purchased failed within 2 weeks of installation. The LED display started displaying a code that I could find no mention of in the pitiful instruction pamphlet that came with the cooler. When I googled the code, I found out that it means "low temperature". Sure enough, when I checked, my wine was near freezing! I called Vinotemp and it took them 2 weeks to send a replacement board (yes, they seemed to know all about this problem) and another week to schedule someone from Sears to install the board. When the repairman got to the house, he could not install the board and had to jury-rig something to fix it. That fix lasted another week before it once again, started to freeze my wine. Another call to Vinotemp and another month of waiting. I then got a call from Vinotemp asking if I was happy with the repair they had done! When I explained the situation, the manager apologized and it then took another 2 weeks before another part showed up. At this point, we called Costco, explained the situation, and got a refund. I called Vinotemp to tell them not to schedule a repairman. Two weeks later, Sears called to schedule the repair. Vinotemp hasn't got a clue. I will never buy anything from this company.

(More customer reviews)We paid for and expected a high-end dual zone wine refrigerator. That's what we thought we had when I installed it. The appearance is indeed nice. However, there are two problems. 1) Spacing is tight between the drawers. Some common size wine bottles cause the drawers to hang up. And, the tops of the bottles on the lower rack get hooked on the lower drawer, so opening the lower drawer pulls them out onto the floor. 2) After giving the unit two weeks to stabilize, we found that the red wine and white wine zones can't reach their warmer and cooler settings unless the settings are only a few degrees apart. There is an opening between the compartments. Cold from the white wine section (they set it up so the cooler temp rack is on top) spills to the lower section making the reds way to cold (or the whites to warm, if you change adjustment ranges). With the red zone set to 65 and the white zone to 45, the actual stabilized temperatures indicated on the read outs are 53 and 48. That's not much better than having all the wines in one refrigerator.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for office wine storage (yes, I work in a strange office). Assembly was straightforward once I figured out where they had stored the screw-in front feet. (They're tucked in a corner in the styrofoam).
I wasn't pleased that the instructions called for a few hours of settling before powering it on, but I've had another wine fridge die on me within days of arrival (not this manufacturer or model), so I let it settle.
Settings are straightforward and it maintains the target temperature with almost no noise.
On the downside, the shelves have these metal fronts on them (You can see them in the pictures. The shelves are just wire frame, but there's a front piece). You can't insert or remove even a standard bottle without sliding the shelf out. It's a minor nit, but my home fridge doesn't have this problem, so it bothers me a bit.
We were a little worried when the box showed up. The exterior of the box was bashed in. The shippers clearly gave this item a "fun" ride. Amazon or the manufacturer expected that, though, I guess. It was double boxed, and the inside box (and the product) were fine.
I would buy this item again.
