iPortable Induction Cooker Review

Having owned a 5 zone induction cooktop imported from the UK in my previous home, I was already spoiled and no stranger to the responsiveness, efficiency, and pure power of induction cooking as well as the different brand units out there. I was a tad nervous about plunking down $500 for a single induction burner, however, this little workhorse has proven to be one of the most joyously hard working appliances in this old kitchen being used exclusively now while the archaic smooth top stove sits cool and idle.
The heat settings on this unit are spontaneous and responsive with a range that will shame your pro-gas stove or cooktop for putting a perfect sear on a roast and boiling a large pot of water lightening fast, plus all settings in between that are dead on accurate as well as a setting low enough to be used as a hot plate. And all this can be done anywhere, even outdoors. What a concept!
I highly recommend this Viking cooker if you are considering bringing induction into your home and would like a test drive a unit that is truly top notch and representative of the genre.
***Important to remember with all induction cooktops is your cookware must be ferrous or magnetic. You can test your pots and pan bottoms with an ordinary kitchen magnet. Cast iron and enameled steel work wonderfully on induction and now there are many cookware manufacturers producing lines of stainless steel that are induction capable.

Viking 12-Cup Coffee Maker Review

You'd expect a bit more for $300 - carafe leaks everywhere when you pour the coffee. Who the heck tested this product at Viking??? Do not buy - looks pretty But doesn't pour correctly!!!!
That was my original review. After speaking to Viking I learned that I had to keep it on the open (o) position and not between the locked and open, while pouring, as their directions state. Works GREAT - no more leaks and it's such a great looking coffee machine! They just need to correct their directions.

Great performance, although a bit pricey. Really puts out the BTUs as advertised and the adjustments are very fine.
However, the right rear ignition module went out after NINE days, but warranty is covering it. Clean up of the stainless steel is also difficult, so you have to clean up after cooking every day right after the grates and burners cool. If you have guests over late, make sure to clean up somewhat before going to bed. The stainless steel is beautiful, but delicate in terms of scratching.
Customer service is poor and using the website to register your product is even worse. TIP: get the Serial and exact Model Number of your cooktop from the installer (located on the right bottom of the burner box), otherwise some of the warranty stations don't want to talk with you. Have your purchase invoice with proof of payment ready, otherwise you may end up being billed. I was lucky that the warranty provider sent someone out who got the SN and MN for me when he checked out the unit. I was told to photocopy the purchase invoice and credit card receipt for the serviceman when he returns with a new ignition module later this week, or I have to pay myself. They need all of this from the customer per Viking. My dealer (who sells Viking but is not a warranty station) failed to note the correct model number on the invoice and failed completely to list the serial number.
My friend has a Wolf 36" five burner cooktop and has had no problems. I am building a new home and will probably go with Wolf. I chose Viking because it is the only one which was low enough in the burner box to fit my counter-oven configuration. Love the Viking performance, but also need friendly customer service given the price tag of these units.

Really like this cooktop so far. Turn the knob to any setting and the electric clicker lights the burner. If for some reason the burner blows out, like if it's on a low simmer, the clicker kicks in and relights the stove. Good heat output.
Nice quality, easy to clean and one big advantage is that the grates are all on the same level so you can slide pots across or leave a pot in the middle.

We're architects and routinely specify appliances for new and remodelled kitchens. Among the worst mistakes we've made was to specify an all Viking kitchen - refrigerators, range, dishwasher, and compactor. Every one of these appliances has failed! Our client has now been without a refrigerator for a month, because Viking was out of stock of a part! The dishwasher had to be replaced. The range has required hundreds of dollars of repairs, and still doesn't work properly. Our advice? Avoid all Viking products!

I bought this cooktop to replace an existing Amana. My main reason for getting Viking was the automatic re-ignition feature, as my elderly mother in law often leaves the gas flowing and does not realize it. The reignition does not work well at low flow rates, though it does work at high or simmer. The biggest design goof up is that the knobs are stainless steel (Viking actually touts this as a superior feature!) But the sad fact is that the knobs get so hot from the adjacent burners that its actually impossible to touch it after using the cooktop for 15 -20 min.
In all poor design for an expensive product. Other companies like Bosch, and Dacor also make automatic re-ignition cooktops and worth looking at.

Viking 12 Cup Food Processor Review

Viking 12 Cup Food Processor
Average Reviews:

I got this food processor five years ago because I liked the fact that the base is metal. I figured it was so frigging expensive and so frigging solid-looking that I would never have to buy another food processor... Well, I probably never WILL have to buy another food processor...but in five years, I've had to replace the WORK BOWL three times (at $60 a pop). It is such a poorly designed piece of crap to attach to such a sturdy, reliable base...like a bullet-, water-, fire-, and shock-proof safe with a cheap plastic padlock. The shiny handle on the work bowl is metal, which is fine, but it is extremely heavy, while the bowl is shockingly flimsy plastic; the laws of physics practically guarantee that locking the big heavy handle into the base will put tremendous stress on the bowl, and eventually, the bowl will crack. Most recently, I had to replace the bowl because, instead of a cracked bowl, the handle broke off, and I was shocked and appalled to see that while the handle is metal and weighs more than a pound, the hardware that forms the locking mechanism is mostly PLASTIC! I'm stuck with this machine because, even though I could buy another food processor with the money I'd save on replacement bowls, I feel like I should keep it as long as the motor still works, but don't make the same mistake! Get a Cuisinart or a KitchenAid!

The 12 cup Viking Food Processor comes equipped with a professional-grade 625-watt induction motor. Despite its powerful, 625-watt motor, this food processor is surprisingly silent as it chops and slices ingredients from garlic to shallots. The professional performance is complemented by an exclusive Viking design and die cast metal base. The 12 cup work bowl, has larger liquid capacity to process soups and sauces. Also included is a smaller, 3-cup work bowl and blade which is great for chopping nuts or mincing herbs. In front, Viking's large control knob includes an On/Off and Pulse function. On the back, another Viking exclusive: rear wheels to help maneuver across countertops. The discs come with a caddy for storing.

Viking Professional 5 -quart Stand Mixer Review

Viking Professional 5 -quart Stand Mixer

I love this mixer!! I began researching the countertop mixers after reading the poor reviews on the KitchenAid. This mixer works wonderfully! I use spouted whole grain flour to make everything from cookies to bread; it is a very heavy and dense flour to work with, but no problem for this mixer at all. I even made sprouted whole grain oatmeal raisin chip cookies and it mixed all the ingreidents very quickly and perfectly. This receipe used to bog down my old hand mixer and I would end up mixing by hand...forever. This is a wonderful machine and I am so glad I bought it. FYI, it is heavy, but has wheels in the base that allow you to roll it accross the counter.

Eight hundred watts of power and planetary mixing action ensure efficient mixing and beating. Not only can this heavy duty stand mixer knead even the toughest whole grain bread dough into submission, it also has a sufficient range of settings, allowing it to tenderly beat a meringue. Locking pop up heads make clean up snap. A special stirring speed helps prevent flour pouf, and liquid splatter during the initial mixing stage. Max speed is engineered for whipping custards, cream, and meringues - in other words when you want to incorporate maximum air. There are numerous attachments available for this unit to increase its multi-tasking capabilities. If you've become a fan of Viking's reliability, quality and style, no doubt this stand mixer would be a most welcome addition to your kitchen.
