The heater is just ok, not great but seems to work. The box arrived in shreds, numerous dents and scratches on the base and pole. There were NO assembly instructions so it was basically trial and error putting this thing together. If you're in the market for a Natural Gas patio heater I would suggest you look elsewhere, the old saying "You get what you pay for" is extremely appropriate in this case. Why did I rate it 3 stars? Well it does warm the patio but the aggravation and "used" appearance made this purchase a very disappointing experience.

I have 9 of these permently installed around my pool and since new there is always 1 or 2 having a problem. I have had a service tech out many times onsite and they get fixed temporaily till the next problem arises. Funny thing is my 2 propane DCS heaters I bought years prior have no problems. I would not buy another SunGlo product ever.

We took the Air-n-Water customer service survey about this purchase, and thought we would share it with you.
1. Describe what products you purchased and how you would rate them.
We ordered the Endless Summer Heat Lamp, but are unable to rate it as it is still not working.
2. Would you recommend your purchase to friends or family? Why or why not?
Absolutely not. Never. Only to enemies.
3. Was there anything that could have been done to improve your shopping experience?
Almost everything.
The assembly manual is very difficult to follow due to poor image quality, badly written directions, and lack of coherent flow (steps not in order). Your estimated 1-2 hr assembly time turned in to 8 hours by a professional mechanic, and the product is still not working.
The product was missing parts when it arrived. It has taken multiple, lengthy phone conversations with disgruntled, unhelpful customer service representatives (they were uniformly terrible, but Starla stands out as the least knowledgeable and friendly) over an eight week (and counting) period. We still have not received all of the appropriate parts. We did get a replacement regulator, but are still awaiting an ignitor cord after being sent a new pilot in error when we requested the ignitor cord.
It would have been very helpful if someone had been able to recommend a professional to assemble or service or even to provide instruction. The customer service reps are not equipped to handle any assembly questions and only make the process more difficult by virtue of their rudeness.
This is a fairly complicated product, and consumers could use more in the way of basic information and support.

Fire Sense Stainless Steel Pyramid Flame Heater Review

Fire Sense Stainless Steel Pyramid Flame Heater

Received the Firesense pyramid patio heater in good condition as it was well packaged and UPS took reasonable care in handling the goods. Instructions were severely lacking in clarity and the pictures were small with poor detail. All the necessary hardware (screws-77 in all) were not in a bag but had been screwed into their appropriate holes only to be removed prior to assembly. Key pieces were not marked as to front or back ot their relationship to other parts. Some parts were pre-assembled only to be taken apart prior to the assembly of other parts. The parts alligned well so that the screws were able to be inserted with minimal effort, however the threaded holes were poorly done and some were stripped prior to my assembly. The water bottle at the bottom of the unit that functioned to give the heater ballance and additional weight was poorly engineered. There was an ill fitting plug at the top that caused the water to leak out when the heater was tilted and moved using its attached wheels. This plug was in addition to a screw type drain/filler hole. The top plug was not accessable without removing 4 bolts and the propane tank retaining ring. The diffuser lid (top) was very "flimsey" and not much thicker than heavy duty aluminum and as a result the lid warped considerably during the heating process.
Had I not been somewhat negligent in my research I would have purchased a unit from another manufacturer that used more refined engeneering principals and a heaver gage material. To me this is a very basic heater with a very limited life-span. You would be well advised to look elsewhere.

After three propane patio heaters purchased from warehouse retailers at great prices, but extremely poor quality with valve failures, and lack of heat unless you get a little too close and personal with it for my taste...I bought this natural gas unit. Outdoor propane heaters require tank changes that are beyond my patience and all of the ones I have purchased experienced various problems. Some research yielded this unit and I am extremely pleased with it...easy to assemble and to hook into my outdoor gas connector that is shared with a natural gas grill. The unit has a heat dispursing bonnet that throws heat a reasonable distance and it's easy to regulate. I can now sit outside smoke a cigar, have a cocktail with my friends and be comfortable. Even better, everyone asks...where did you get this heater? They all comment how well it works and it's the nicest one they have seen. It's worth the $$$...

I ordered this a month ago or so. It came in and I assembled it that day. I figured out how to assemble it fine... other reviewers of this product on other sites said they had a hard time assembling it, so I was pleased to get over that hurdle. I put a fresh tank of propane on it and fired it up. No issues. Seemed to work great. I test ran it for about 10 minutes to burn off the coatings that are part of the heating element, then shut it down.
On another occasion very shortly thereafter I fired it up to test it and see how effective it was at making my deck more comfortable. Overall, the product did as I thought it would. It is effective within a few feet at turning a colder evening into one that is pleasant.
This weekend I had people over and we wanted to fire it up. This wasn't a test, but rather an actual use of the product. Totally could not get it to work. Pilot will not stay lit, no matter what. When it does stay lit, it will puff out within minutes. I once got it to trigger the main burner, but then it went out. Totally frustrating. This thing is brand new!!

Very disappointing.... 3 hours to assemble... and even with a plumber friend had a hard time getting the LP gas connections safely connected. Overall this unit seems a bit cheap and flimsy -- wouldn't buy this again if I had the chance to do it over. Keep looking - there's got to be a better unit on the market!
update: March 2008: It's now been a year since we bought this and every time we turn it on I feel a little guilty about this review. Yes, assembly was a pain, but once we got it together, it's worked flawlessly since and puts out great heat. Amazon won't let me upgrade this to 3 or 4 stars, but I did want to add that this has been a good unit.

Fire Sense Commercial Patio Heater, Unpainted Stainless Steel Review

Fire Sense Commercial Patio Heater, Unpainted Stainless Steel

I previously had a propane patio heater with a pilot light. What a pain! This heater with a pilotless direct ignition is fantastic. It lights right away, then shut it off when you are done. No getting on a stepstool and peering into the heater to see if the damn pilot light is lit. Plus, they blow out, not to mention that the thermocouple does not last and then you might as well throw them away, since they are not easy to repair. With this unit, you turn it on when you want to use it and then shut it down. Much easier to use and worth the extra money. Unit is not too heavy, so easy to move around on the built in wheels. A bit disappointed that the "stainless" steel base is beginning to rust in only a few months, but I can probably get it off with a little steel wool. Assembly is about 45 minutes and instructions are good. I am buying a second one and would never go back to a model with a pilot light. Get a patio heater cover for it also. Exposing the burners and ignition system to the elements most likely shortens the life of a heater significantly.

The unit works well, and heats most of our screened porch. The only problem is that it keeps tripping the circuit breakers no matter where we plug it in. No warning about that on any website before. We have to turn off all the outdoor lights, or some combination of that, to run the unit. Small compromise for staying warm while enjoying extended use of our porch as the weather cools.

My heater arrived yesterday. One of the warmer days we've had. But I wanted to use it anyway. It works nicely, BUT IT IS LOUD. My air compressor can not even drown out the noise, but I will get used to it as I do wear ear protection when I operate the machines in my shop. The thermostat controlled shutdown and start-up is a plus.

Five Tips for Buying a HeaterChoosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier.

What are the different types of space heaters?
Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.

Should I buy an electric or a combustion model? If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips.

How powerful a heater do I need?Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:
Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.
Do space heaters cost a lot to operate? As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient.

Are space heaters a fire hazard?Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.

I bought this heater for around $200 on Amazon. Build quality is good but not excellent. It has all the features of units that cost twice as much. The packaging and instructions were very good. It works well in zero to light wind on our deck, but when the wind picks up forget about and go back inside. I have yet to burn an entire 20 lb. bottle of LPG, having used the heater several times, so it appears to be pretty easy on the wallet to operate. Make sure you anchor the unit to the deck or ground. Ours blew over and bent the "top-hat" in a "L" shape. It bent back pretty good but now has a crease in it. Not much else to say. Good luck.

I have the older version that is functionally identical to the current version (they replaced the L-bolt that holds the heater on the tank with a ribbed knob on the new version). I love it for taking the morning chill off the house in the morning. I keep it in the kitchen and fire it up first thing on a cold morning. After about 30 minutes the chill is off not only the kitchen but the adjacent master bedroom and living rooms.
Be cautious - like any unvented heater it can be dangerous if you try to heat an unvented space for any length of time.
It is economical to use and even more so if you are able to find a local propane tank refiller. If you are forced to exchange the tank, it can cost [$$$]. If you have the tank refilled it will only cost [$$$].
My heater was given to me, used, and I liked it so much I gave one to my sister to use when she didn't want to burn the fireplace. I am now going to buy a newer one for the house, and relegate the older on out to my workshop.
Reliable, efficient, made in the USA - whats not to like.

For convenience and flexibility in an outdoor-only heater, it's hard to beat the Mr. Heater MH24T 8,000-28,000 Btu double heater. This unit gives you the option of using one or two burners and mounts directly on one- to 20-pound cylinders. It uses infra-red heat, which means that it warms the objects in front of it, not the surrounding air. This gives you more heat per Btu, which means that using both burners at the highest of the three settings will keep you warm even in miserably cold situations. The heater shuts off automatically with loss of flame. Do not use in unventilated areas. One-year limited warranty.--Josh Dettweiler
