Besides that, they go with everything, are classic enough to be formal but modern enough to also go with simple place settings. You can see from the pictures. If you like the photos, you will like the silverware. I also like the fact that they have stainless steel knife blades so you can really use them. So, my review is that if you like the look, you will like the function.

Emailed them, and they promptly sent the four dinner forks, and let us keep the extra salad forks. As for the silverware, its great. Been using it for a few months now, and it is not rusting or scratching. They feel very solid and don't bend. If you like the style, as we do, you'll be happy with this set.

was I who sent away for flatware and china pattern brochures. Upon viewing them, I fell in love immediately with both the item being reviewed here, (the "Eloquence" silver flatware pattern by Lunt), and the "Dynasty" china pattern, by Minton. Of course, I knew they did not match my sister's and her fiance's simpler tastes, and also that neither they, nor my parents, nor my sister's finace's parents, could afford such (to me, anyway), breath-takingly beautiful china & flatware. No matter.I spent hours, and hours, and hours, just LOOKING at the wonderful photographs of these decoratively patterned tableware...and planning how someday I, myself, might choose them, someday in the future, when I got rich and married. Or maybe, just got married. Or, maybe just got rich....
"Eloquence" was the most beautiful flatware pattern I had ever seen. It remains the most beautiful flatware pattern I have ever seen to this day!
The picture here on Amazon just begins to do it justice.... One is just able to see, (if one squints enough), that the pattern is PIERCED! It resembles a teardrop, (from tears of joy, I assume!), outlined by a frame of cut-out, (the piercing), and then doubly-framed by a larger teardrop, enticingly and beautifully scrolled and etched. The design goes up, gracefully, all the way up to the bowls, (of the beauifully-shaped spoons), and the tines, (of the handsomely designed forks and knives.) Altogether, the MOST beautiful silverware pattern imaginable!
A few years later, I learnt to my astonishment, that TRICIA NIXON had chosen both the Lunt "Eloquence" flatware pattern, AND the Minton "Dynasty" china pattern, in advance of her White House wedding to Edward Cox! I am a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, (with Libertarian leanings)....but it seems I share a taste for the good...no, the BEST things, in life, (too!) To me, Tricia Nixon-Cox herself is the ultimate in elegance, (and "Eloquence"!), and her beatiful face, graceful manners, and long blonde hair, will remain an icon of mine forever. (Not to mention her taste in flatwre and china patterns!)
Alas, the china manufacturer, MINTON, has gone out of business in the intervening years. Piece of the wonderful "Dynasty" pattern, though, may still be found if one looks hard enough. Happily, Lunt still is delightfully in business...and, hopefully, is also still producing the gracious, graceful, and totally enchanting "Eloquence" tableware pattern.
I wonder, though, why this four-piece place setting contains one knife, two forks...and only one spoon? Surely it's easier for one fork to do the work of two forks, than it is for one spoon to do the work of two spoons? I know I use more spoons when I eat than I do forks. I think many people do as well. Surely, at this price, at least a CHOICE of two spoons and/or two forks should have been given?
Ican only request here that they also -- if at ALL possible -- now start to make it, as well, in 18/8 stainless steel, as well. Having this pattern...in however reduced a metal...will always stir both one's imagination, and one's ambition! Lunt's "Eloquence" flatware pattern is of what dreams...and the fullfillnent of dreams...are made. And, as Lunt is an AMERICAN company, just looking at this beautiful flatware, (every day at the table...even if only in a possibly-future stainless steel version), would be a constant reminder of all that America is, was, and can be! Europe is steeped in elegance and prestige...but, looking at the "Eloquence" pattern by Lunt, one is reminded, every time one sees it, that America can be, too!

WMF Taika 53-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 Review

However, not all WMF Taika is the same. Some appear to be made in Germany, some in Korea (last purchase in 2003), some in China (last purchase). This latest set comes out of China. Compared to previous parts that I have purchased it is a slightly different design. More clunky, especially on the knives and many small differences. When my wife saw it she said "but they're not the same!".
Bottom line: make sure you look at it live in a store and make sure that you get additional pieces from the same factory.

This WMF Taika 18/10 stainless steel flatware features a contemporary flair and is perfect for either a formal table or for everyday use. Unusual proportions break with our familiar concepts of cutlery. Taika looks as if it has been stretched, extremely slim and graceful (The knife measures 9-1/2 inches in length, while the fork and soup spoon measure 9 inches) The final outcome of this, is the merging of the handle and blade of the knife into one. (More customer reviews)I received this as a wedding present and was stunned when I opened the box. The quality is amazing, the pieces are heavy and sturdy, and they already have a beautiful patina. I cannot wait to use this set when we have guests over as they are so nice they have to be shown! The pattern carries on throughout the handle and the actual spoon and fork part. The pattern wraps all the way around the utensils resulting in each piece being as beautiful on the back as it is on the front.
The set includes 12 place settings (salad fork, dinner fork, dessert fork, soup spoon, tea spoon, dessert spoon, butter knife) as well as a lovely hostess serving set (including 2 serving forks, 2 serving spoons, 2 slotted serving spoons, a small ladle and a large ladle).
The set also arrived with a simple wooden storage box that is nice for keeping the set safe when not in use. I did however notice that the seller of this product here has changed since I received this set, so the new seller may not include the storage box.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this set for myself to replace a 19 year old Oneida set I had gotten tired of. I couldn't be more pleased. Each piece is shiny, attractively designed, and amusingly shaped. Just as important, each piece is well balanced so that the utensil does not tend to flip off the edge of the plate or cereal bowl as sometimes happens with other handle-heavy utensils. The forks are slightly bowl shaped which facilitates holding food which is not pierced. I have not found the fish lips on the soup spoons to be a problem during eating as long as you are not so rushed that you carelessly shove the spoon against your lower lip, as some reviewers have complained. When handwashing the utensils, some attention was given to check that no food particles are retained in the fish eye holes in the forks and knives; however, this was not an issue if a dishwasher is used. The included wooden caddy is utilitarian and plain, and was too tall to fit in my drawer, so it was replaced with a sleek bamboo utensil tray. This flatware is great for casual or party entertaining, and I really like it!

Which meant the minimal place settings (fork, spoon, knife) had to be hand-washed, dried, polished, and laid back in their special case after each evening meal. And of course, on holidays, the entire contents of the silverware case was let out, serving pieces and all, polished, washed and dried, and complete place settings put upon the table - by me and my younger brother (yes!) and sister. For whatever else true silverware might be worth, that family participation was well worth it. I learned to treasure every piece.
With this pattern you cannot go wrong. It's elegant, simple, easy to use and maintain, but at the same time gives you that connection with history. It works with just about any table setting that's not just unabashedly casual. jenna

iittala Piano Collection Review

(More customer reviews)For a while, we've been looking for the most satisfying and unique flatware for our daily use and also for casual/formal parties. It finally ended and in the process, we ended up owning 3 different sets. Two of them are made by iittala, a Finland company who makes their products in finland and not in CHINA.
After checking out lot of local department stores we first got Villeroy & Boch New Wave Flatware set which we returned as it didn't feel good in hand. Now, after owning iittala, New Wave looks terrible.
After lot of browsing and research online and in local stores, we ended up owning WMF Taika Flatware for daily use as amazon has incredible deal on 43-piece set. WMF is a European company but the flatware is made in China.
For formal parties, we got iittala's Artik Flatware set. This set has very similar finish to Piano flatware and is more affordable for us.
Then, we were very fortunate to find a bargain deal on Piano dinner forks and knives from a charity organisation that sells on ebay! Of the three, we like Piano the most. No wonder the price is high! It sure shows in the finish and style of the product. The stainless steel has a very vibrant shine to it and the handles are thick and very very comfortable to hold. They are not heavy since the inside of the handles is hallow but the outside of it is so thick that it feels as if its not hallow inside.
This set is sure to get more attention than anything else you put on the table to guests.In fact, iittala suddenly seems to be our favorite brand for kitchen. Amazon just started to carry lot of their products and I placed an order for their daily use drinkware.

(More customer reviews)We have enjoyed Mikasa Sweet Pea stainless flatware for nearly a year, and it is simply superb. It is pleasing to the eye, extremely popular, substantial, well-balanced, elegant, easy to hold and maneuver and is comfortable to the hand (regardless of size). This pattern transitions from casual dining to a more formal table with ease. Our set still retains its highly-polished appearance after a year of daily use and dishwasher cycles, and the design prevents handles from sliding down through flatware basket spaces when placed handle-side-down. The design is very attractive without being ostentatious or difficult to clean. This grade of stainless is excellent, and the pieces are quite hard and strong. The dinner knives have a finely serrated edge which make cutting a breeze. The salad or dessert forks are somewhat smaller and lighter than the dinner forks and are well-balanced and appropriate for smaller serving dishes or plates. I have arthritis in my hands and I find this pattern much easier to use and grasp than any other flatware I have used. The price of this set is very reasonable considering the superior quality and lasting value. I bought two sets so I will never need to replace individual pieces at open stock prices, I will never have to use mismatched flatware again, and I always have enough place settings ready-to-go when friends visit unexpectedly. This is one purchase I will never regret, and this set would make a fine gift of quality and good taste. I tend to be somewhat critical of most products and find fault with them after a short time, but I find no shortcoming with this set. I highly recommend Mikasa Sweet Pea without reservation.

(More customer reviews)This is supposed to a special collection for WMF's 150th Anniversary. According to their website, they had enlisted "one of the most successful German designers: JETTE JOOP. The cutlery model JETTE is in something special in every respect."
I ordered this as I liked the design of the handle. Since it was a special collection, I expected it to be made in Germany.
When I received the set, I saw that the knife had "China" stamped under the WMF logo.

The other four pieces had "China" stamped after the "18/10" on the back of the handle.

Nowhere in the product description does it say that this set was made in China. The photograph of the product shown also does not have "China" stamped on it. This is clearly a case of false representation. Why should a customer pay extra for a "special anniversary set", when it is made in China, with "China" stamped all over it? This set should only be sold in China!

(More customer reviews)We are very pleased with this flatware set. Firstly, 110 pieces for $100 is an excellent value. Second, they are quality pieces constructed of thick, heavy stainless. Sure, there are heavier sets, but these are very strong and will last forever without bending (the forks can be used to mash dense avocados, etc. without fear). The handles are very comfortable in your hand - even when holding the forks sideways to cut, no sharp edges press against your palm. We love having the round soup spoons and all the serving utensils.

It's incredibly functional as it is dishwasher safe and good for everyday use and yet can easily be used for formal dining as well. The only downside is that the pattern has been retired and is virtually impossible to get, although it's well worth the hunt and cost!
