I don't know how you pick good quality dimmers as recommended on the box, but these bulbs work great with my dimmers. I deducted one star because I've had a couple of bulbs burn out way too soon, but the rest have never been changed and are still working great.

Feit Electric ESL7C 7-Watt Compact Fluorescent Chandelier Bulb with Candelabra Base (40-Watt Incandescent Equivalent) Review

I bought ten of these to replace the 40W bulbs in my chandelier. Here are a few important observations:
- Life: I bought them less than a year ago. One bulb is already dead, even though the light is on only in the day when someone is in the room. Assuming it's on a max of 16hrs/day, the bulb should last over 1 year at its 8000hr rating. I find it odd that the box says it is guaranteed to last up to 7 years, but averages only 8000 hours. That would mean, on average, the bulb should only be on about 3hrs/day to last all 7 years.
- Size: Like many of the CFL chandelier (candelabra E12 base) bulbs out there, the size is much larger than the incandescent version. It is about 1.5" (38mm) in diameter and over 4" (102mm) long. It barely fits onto my chandelier.
- Light Output: A standard chandelier bulb will put out anywhere from 330 to 500 lumens of light. This bulb puts out only 280 lumens, so the light output could be much dimmer than the 40W bulb it replaces. For some reason, the description on this Amazon page currently shows 280 lumens AND 440 lumens.
- Response: These bulbs come on immediately, but they take a few minutes before they reach full brightness.
To me, this is not a true 40W incandescent equivalent bulb. But as long as you know what you are getting, this bulb could still help save you money on the electricity bill.

Long life incandescent light bulbs use a thicker filament than standard light bulbs. A thicker filament burns longer and is substantially less susceptible to power spikes (the cause of most incandescent light bulb failures). However, the thicker the filament the less light will be produced. You can expect less light output from long life incandescent bulbs compared to standard incandescents.

This product is exactly what it says it is, but I wish I'd looked at the description or picture more closely.
These work perfectly for what they are intended for, but note that the beam is rather narrow (36") and that the inside coating is reflective, rather than translucent. I bought these for a chandelier with translucent glass shields, and I didn't realize that translucent bulbs are really important for this use. These reflect a greater amount of light towards the subject and thus less into the rest of the room through the translucent glass. But that was my bad, not the bulbs. The bulbs are, as I said, exactly what they say they are and I didn't sufficiently appreciate what I should have for my application.

TCP 14-Watt Soft White Compact Fluorescent Flood Light Bulb (6 Pack) Review

TCP 14-Watt Soft White Compact Fluorescent Flood Light Bulb (6 Pack)
Average Reviews:

I have been using these TCP compact fluorescent floods for one year now. I originally bought a CARTON/BOX full of them, which (if I recall) is something like 48 bulbs. I installed them in our new 6,000 sq.ft. home, which has around 40 ceiling cans. After a year of use, I can honestly report the following:
1) The bulbs are very dim when first energized, and require a minute or more to reach a usable brightness level.
2) Many of these bulbs fail prematurely (6 out of 40, so far) due to their cheap electronic ballast. I've given up on contacting TCP and getting replacement bulbs - after two calls (and two dead bulbs), the gal thought I was lying and trying to get free bulbs.
3) As they age, these bulbs assume an ugly yellow color while "warming up" (remember... it takes a minute or more for them to actually reach a usable light output and a white color). If you replace one in an area with several, it is very noticeable! The old ones will light up "yellow" and dim, while the new one will light up "white" and dim, but warm up much faster than the old ones.
I was hoping TCP produced a quality product, but it's obvious now that they use the cheapest (and under-rated) materials possible. It's been a pain replacing these bulbs, given that I have 10' ceilings in most rooms, and 30' vaulted ceilings in the entry and stairway area.
Are they a good deal? Only if you get them at a very discounted price (which I did) and you buy 15% more than you need, as replacement stock. My outside ones (in a covered area, not exposed to water) only lasted two months! I'm putting incandescents back into those areas, as I'm tired of changing bulbs and wasting my money on TCP's.

At a little over 10 bucks for 8 of these, you can't go wrong.
These are just your basic CFLs, at the 2700 kelvin temperature range. That means they're about the same shade as your basic ordinary 60W incandescent bulb. A pale yellow white, not pure white (5100 Kelvin), or daylight (around 6300 Kelvin).
Pure white or daylight CFLS cost more because the phosphors in them are more expensive, but they do have the advantage of being more natural light, rather than imitating the poor quality light of an ordinary light bulb.
So if you're thinking of upgrading to CFLs these bulbs are a great deal to start from. But do take advantage of the technology & get a higher quality light at a higher color temperature for some of your areas, & enjoy better quality light, rather than just using CFLs that imitate the poor quality light of old fashioned light bulbs.
Winter depression can be triggered by lack of natural light because of less hours of daylight, & more cloudy, overcast days in winters. In northern climates when it's cold, people stay inside more, use heavy insulating window curtains, further reducing their exposure to natural light. 5100K-6700k CFLs help with winter depression by exposing you to more natural light. Colors look more rich & vivid. Things look more cheery. It's even easier to read under natural light.
I find I can read just as easy under a 4-watt 5100k CFL than a 13 watt 2700k CFL.
The backlight in your LCD display that you're probably reading this from is probably a 5100k-6700K bulb.
Look at the white areas on the screen & then look at your lighting in the room. Doesn't that ordinary light bulb or 2700K CFL look a lot more yellow by comparison?
