(More customer reviews)I bought a CE901 cooktop in 2004 because I liked the way it looked. Nice design. After about a year, the regulator (knob) for the top right element sometimes failed to turn off. The amber light that warns about a hot element just stayed on forever. And I swear I got an electric shock once when touching the knob, but that was a one time thing. I called F&P because the unit was still under warranty. They sent a repair service who exchanged the regulator. In fact, I think they exchanged all regulators, not sure why.
A few weeks later we heard a loud noise when we turned on one of the elements, there was smoke and the smell of electric fire. F&P said it's not their problem anymore because the warranty ran out. After much complaining on my part, they said they'd send out the repair service again to change the electronics. I did not want the same (apparently incompetent) repair service to touch the cooktop. After more complaining and basically telling them their product nearly burnt my house down, they agreed to send a new cooktop.
Fast forward to 2010. A couple of weeks ago the same regulator that broke the first time around is again acting up. This time it no longer turns on the burner and feels "mushy" when you turn it. I plan to do the repair myself, but can't find any parts info in the manual or on the F&P website. The only place that has parts info for the CE901 is Sears(!).
As nice as the F&P appliances look, they seem to be of mediocre quality.
