(More customer reviews)Last Year I purchased this model. I've found that when I put perfectly granular name brand rock salt in the hopper it does not flow freely. The salt is stored inside a building, on a pallet to keep it dry. Because of the moisture in the spreader due to weather conditions, the salt needs agitating. After talking to the company who sold it they called the factory rep and he said the spreader would not accept an agitator because the motor is not heavy enough. The factory rep suggested an adapter to accept an agitator at the cost of $350! This salt spreader is causing frustration whenever it is used.

(More customer reviews)I bought the S.S. version of this after having 3 of the steel versions rust out on me to the point of literally falling apart. I use this for my landscape business and use it for both lawn fertilizer as well as spreading ice melt in the winter. The ice melt just destroyed the plain painted steel versions. And at almost $150 each I got pretty tired of them lasting only 2 years. I used this only briefly so far this winter for ice melt but i can tell how the salt granules and powder don't stick to the SS the way they did with the plain steel. It's easy to assemble (of course this is my 4th one, as the plain steel ones go together almost identically). It feels much more solid and heavy than the steel ones, plus it's got a sloped handle that feels much better to push on (especially with 50# of salt in them and going over ice/snow/slush). I would have preferred it if the tank was also SS instead of plastic since the plastic can crack when it gets tossed around. None the less...I highly recommend this unit and it is worth the high cost. Also, Amazon was great as usual, had best price and item was received in perfect shape and very promptly.
