This product has a well-known design defect.
If you try to use the self-clean function, a thermal fuse blows in the oven.
Replacing this fuse requires a service call which costs around $150.
The service shops know exactly what to do because they do it so often. KitchenAid admits this problem but refuses to do anything about it. The advice is, don't use the self-clean feature!
However, they also tell you not to use conventional cleansers in the oven either.
I have placed this review on Amazon before and it has been deleted.

This is the worst oven I have ever seen, I do not know what the engineers where thinking when they built this unit. There is a small metal deflector that runs along the top of the vents above the top door and after 10-12 minutes of the oven coming to temp, the whole area above the door gets so hot, you can burn yourself. Funny thing is, the engineers obviously knew this, because after I got a blister on my finger from touching this metal band, I looked at the manual and under the section "Vents" it actually says that it could burn you!! Worst of all, Maytag was very uncooperative about exchanging the unit. I had always thought Maytag was a good company but I will never purchase another thing from them. They acted as if there was nothing wrong. A service person came to my home from PC Richards where I purchased the oven and he measured the temperature of this metal deflector once the oven reached 360 degrees on the inside. The metal strip on the outside had already reached a temperature of 220 degrees after only 12 minutes. PC Richards was great. They gladly offered an exchange and I purchased a GE instead.
My recommendation is to stay away, far away, it will burn you and then Maytag will add insult to injury and burn you again.
