I have yet to use this pot to make risotto. However, it makes the most marvelous braised dishes. I bought it to make osso buco and large pot roasts. I had condsidered the 5 quart buffet pan and decided on this pot due it slightly higher sides, which makes it more versatile for how I cook. I have a 3-1/2 quart French oven as well and it just wasn't large enough for some of my recipes. If you find yourself trying to cram your ingredients into a smaller width French oven, this is for you!
It's the perfect shape for oven or stove top braising and performs beautifully! It's a very wide pot with shallower sides than the French ovens. I also use it as a roasting pan with out the lid. it holds 2 large chickens easily. And soups and stews come out well too. A delight to cook with!!
And ... It cleans up easily with a short soak in hot soapy water. Treat the enamel gently, don't use metal utensils.
I'm a big fan of Le Creuset and own a few well chosen pieces. I recommend you consider carefully how you will use your piece of Le Creuset before buying. Nothing worse than buying an expensive piece of cookware only to find you don't use it. Me, I use mine frequently.

A wide version of the lidded round French oven, this shallow, low-profile oven holds up to 6-3/4 quarts and measures approximately 12-2/5 by 15 by 6-1/5 inches. Its shorter side walls and greater width nicely expose ingredients, facilitate efficient liquid evaporation, and provide a larger surface area for even browning--perfect for a variety of recipes and techniques, from stirring a rich risotto on the stovetop to browning ingredients before slow cooking.
Made of heavy-duty cast iron, the cookware's colorful, long-lasting exterior enamel resists chipping and cracking, while its durable, nonreactive sand-colored interior enamel offers a smooth surface for cooking and an optimal palette for food presentation. As cast iron is unexcelled for even heat distribution and superior heat retention, and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the oven browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating, cooking on the stovetop, or finishing in the oven. Two loop cast-iron side handles help ensure a steady grip during transport--even when wearing bulky oven mitts, and the unit's secure-fitting lid locks in heat and moisture while cooking. The lid also comes fitted with a black phenolic knob that can withstand an oven's heat up to 350 degrees F. Beautiful enough for the table yet durable enough to outlive its lifetime limited warranty, the multi-purpose French oven can be safely used on any stovetop, including induction, and should be hand washed for best results.
