(More customer reviews)We got this hood when we remodeled our kitchen. It looks great. Based on Ventahoods description, I thought it would be quiet. It is not, and is about as loud as my wifes hairdryer. On low it is about as loud as her hairdryer on low, and on high it is as loud as her hairdryer on high. I didn't check out other hoods, so I don't know how this compares for noise. While I would prefer a quieter hood, I can live with it when it is on the low setting.
The thing that bugs me is that their is a thermostat that kicks in to raise the fan speed to high, if high cooking temperatures are detected. Unfortunately, if the halogen lamps in the hood are on, the heat produced from these lights is enough to kick the fan onto high and remain on high continuously - even with no heat coming from the stovetop or oven. We use the lights whenever we are cooking, so even with nothing cooking on the stove, the fan runs on high. I don't like this since it is quite noisy on high.
If you don't use the lights, it will work on low.
I spoke to a Tech Support person at ventahood, who says there is nothing wrong, and nothing will be done to fix it.
